Hello all, just need some advice! I recently was diagnosed with acid reflux and Gastritis. I have mild inflammation in my esophagus due to the reflux. I'm a little bit confused since I never really knew I had reflux. I never felt my food coming back up or heart burn or anything. What I did start feeling a couple months back was burning tummy and nausea. And one day I woke up not being able to breathe and also I had difficulty swallowing. It felt as if my throat was closing in on me. Well., it's been two months since my endoscopy and I've already been on three different medications that don't work. Here's the odd part since I have been put on the medications now I burp after my meals and I feel the food coming up and I get chest pains now:/ just this week I started experiencing a pain by my rib almost by my beast it's an aching pain if I touch it it hurts. I'm not sure if this is being caused by the Gerd or if I injured myself while working out. But I do feel pain while I eat almost how I did before I started medication. Does anyone have any advice or feel the same symptoms? Thank you!

Sorry to hear about another one victim of GERD. Unfortunately there is no a cure for all. You need to try a lot of things. For example, try changing pills, try additives like DGL ...Try to incline your bed, try to practice breath excersises (the say it is make LES stronger - you need 30 minutes per day)
Also you should definitly try to change your diet. For example i find interesting "Fast tract digestion: GERD" by Norman Robillard. This diet can even stop GERD in some cases.
Finally you will find something that helps you. Otherwise there is always a surgery option. Hard to decide, but we have Nissen, Linx and Endostim now to chose from.

THANK YOU! I feel like I've tried everything!! I've changed my diet dramatically and I've tried accupunture. It did he some but nothing dramatic so I stopped doing it because it was expensive and I wasn't noticing a big improvement. I've had tried the breathing techniques and it actually does help. I actually set an appointment with a new GI hoping he will help me get some answers that I need. I feel like my current GI just throes medicine at me and is not trying to help me find answers. I also have an appointment with a ayureveda doctor on Saturday see what she recommends. I honestly feel like the medicine made me worse. I'll have to explain to new GI everything from the beginning. I had weird symptoms before medication I had wheezing, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing and hoarseness of my voice but no reflux. But since I've started the medication I can feel the food coming up and going down and the burping that I started having too. I just purchased my pillow wedge today! It's a huge difference than piling up a bunch of pillows lol

Cyngarcia1289, good to read that you are doing your best to heal! It is a huge part of healing!
Me too, i am trying to use both "normal" medicine and naturopathy. I take some homeopathy pills and i am always in contact with homeopathy doctor.
I think it is a good idea to use a complex methods for GERD.

As to diet changing i strongly recommend readin Fast tract digestion for GERD. It is based on suggestion that LES becomes weak because of excessive gas that bacterias produce (that is why PPI's can make things worse - low acid is very attractive for even more bacterias).
So the diet is based on reducing the food that helps bacterias to grow. It is really good to try. It can change your life.

Of course there is no a cure for all as i have said. For example i have a slow gallbladder and my reflux is with lots of bile in it. So it is even harder to manage.
And the big problem for me is depression. This one i can;t manage at all and it takes a lot of my forces. Well...it is hard to stay positive with GERD.

I'll have to look into that Book :) I bought the acid reflux cookbook but to be honest it's pretty much everything I knew. Right now I'm focusing on this chest pain leaving. I'm thinking maybe it's because the Zantac I'm currently on is not strong enough. I'm also dealing with depression as well but trying not to let it control my life. I'm just really hoping that this new GI brings me some sort of direction and answers. He's one of top ten GPS in Illinois. I've read a lot of good reviews on him helping people find their underlying cause of their problems. Sometimes it. Just takes the right doctor. Have you ever heard of applied kenelogist? Someone recommend to see a. Doctor that practices this. How long have you had Gerd for?

I have GERD for more than a year now. It started from the gastritis flare up and then became worse and worse. At the beginning i had "mild esophagitis" and in a year it progressed to the erosive one. While it was mild i didn't took PPi's , but since finding erosions (in April) i have to take the pills of course, because i have a great fear to continue developing this.

Yes i have heard about the kinesitherapy. But there are no good centers of this in the area where i live (and there are no good centers to treat GERD eather). So i can't try it for now.
If you can - i think that you should try it. We do realy need to try everything possible.

Cyngarcia, have you had any gallbladder testing? Treating GERD and gastritis is a long, ongoing process and there are no quick fixes. A lot of members of this forum have been suffering with GERD for most of their lives. You might want to try really chewing your food before you swallow, almost to a liquid, and try eating 4-6 small meals a day - rather than 3 larger ones.

I've been taking medication since before I was diagnosed and I haven't found the medication that helps me 100 percent. I'll definitely try the applied kinesiology. It is kinda expensive but I did find a good doctor.

My gall bladder was one of the first things that were checked since I kept complaining about having pain on my right ab. I had xrays and ultrasounds done and nothing. But I will have to tell my new GI about everything that's been happening since day one. I'm really pushing for answers on why my stomach is producing so much acid and if a doctor is not willing to help me I will definitely be moving onto the next doctor. My goal is not to depend on medication and heal. I even have a diary of my daily foods and how react. I do eat smaller meals throughout the day ND chew my food properly. I'm recently going to try seeing a ayureveda doctor and I also purchased an oil named divine that is suppossed to help. So I'm crossing my fingers

Have you tried pushing your doctor to do a 24 hour pH test on you or a barium swallow? How is medication working for you now that you are on them?

I'll have to tell my doc about about the right side pain since recently after working out I started feeling that pain again right below my rib and as the days have passed I feel it like on my rib if I touch it hurts and when I eat there is a slight pain so I'm not sure if it's from my esophagus or if I hurt myself and maybe I'm feeling it while I eat not sure. One thing is for sure i purchases my pillow wedge yesterday and used it for the first time last night and today I did not wake up with the aching pain on my right side of my chest or rib so maybe my pain was coming from the way I was sleeping I was basically sleeping upright in a sitting position.

Cyngarcia, I had x-rays and ultra-sounds done on my gallbladder - which showed absolutely nothing. I had a Hida-Scan done that showed that my gallbladder was basically non-functional. You might want to have further testing done for the gallbladder.

What kind of symptoms were you having? How did you convince your doctor to look at your bladder even though other test were done to rule out the fall bladder?

I didn;t have 24h pH test. Byt i feel discomfort under right rib sometimes, my gallbladder is slow and my tongue is covered by yellow-brownish fur. So there is no doubt that i have a lot of bile reflux. :(

As to medication -i don't know to tell the truth. Sometimes i feel better but sometimes worse. It seems that for me there is no much difference in takingg pills or not taking them (i mean PPI's).

I was having pain under my ribcage, right side. My doctor told me that the x-rays and ultra-sound would come back negative, but he needed to do them for insurance purposes before the Hida-Scan. The Hida-Scan actually will show the function of your gallbladder. I had my appendix removed, two years later, my gallbladder. Suffered with acid reflux all of my life, but then had bronchitis four times in one year. I was using an inhaler every day and receiving breathing treatments. My pulmonary specialist was actually the doctor that scheduled me for the barium swallow. He said my reflux was in the top 5 worst he's seen in his career. He sent me to a gastric surgeon who scheduled another endoscopy, pH monitoring, and manometry, because he believed that my acid reflux was so severe that it was causing my lung issues. For years I went to a GI doctor who did no further testing other than an endoscopy that showed acid reflux and H-Pylori. I took protonix for years, that gave me some relief. Fast forward a few months and I had NF and hernia surgery.

Wow! I'm sorry you had to go through all that! I know about two months before my endoscopy I ended up in the ER because I had shoulder pain that turned into breathing problems. It would hurt for me to breathe. I thought it was my lungs but after xrays they ruled it out as inflammation of my muscles. My chest felt so inflamed and it would hurt when I touched it. It was horrible. I wonder if this is all related becUse now I feel pain pressing down on my rib on my right side and that pain is coming back.

Pain in right shoulder blade by any chance? That's textbook gallbladder symptoms, you should get a hida scan.

Yes it was a throbbed pain. And within an hour I started feeling pain in my chest when I woukd breathe it hurt so bad. Weird thing though is since I started the medication it went away I haven't felt it again since recently but not as strong. I also have pain on the right side of my chest by my rib and under the rib. And it's been bothering some when I swallow in that particular area. Not sure if it's my esophagus or this pain or what :/
