gerds cause nausea?!?!

Any chance my gerds is causing my morning nausea?? I'm trying to blame this on my anxiety but i just don't k ow! Anyone out there with gerds experience this!?

I have similar issues most mornings. I typically feel nausea everytime my GERD flares up but in the mornings it can be pretty bad. I usually have to get up a couple hours earlier than most people before work just so I can work it through my system. I typically grab a bottle of water and chew gum and it seems to help for me.
But on the other hand alot of time the anxiety will cause the GERD to flare. so they kind of go hand in hand, at least for me.

Ray, wow sounds like myself! Today instead of just turning around and coming home from my attempt on making it to work, I wanted to just wait down the road till all was off to school and work. Sick of letting my loved ones down but this really has me by the tail! I'm nauseous minutes after waking up and this causes anxiety, been just thinking it's anxiety but now starting to wonder if its actually the gerds?! I chew gum like crazzzzy!

409-, there has been plenty of days I have had to seriously talk myself into going into work so I understand that one. I actually had to move closer to work and that has helped with the anxiety of getting in the car and making it since point A is now only 5 minutes to point B.
And I know all to well about feeling like you have let loved ones down. Matter of fact this past weekend everyone wanted to go to a pumpkin patch festival thing here in town and I felt so horrible that day we didnt go which in turn kicked in my depression and caused a nasty GERD and anxiety flare. That is what brought me to the forums and found your post.
Hope your mornings get less sickening and find something that works for you. Like I said I get up a couple hours prior to needing to leave so I can try and get myself into a better mind set, chew my gum and drink a bottle of water. The other thing that has kind of helped is that after I have been up for a little bit I eat a banana. It has helped alot with the reflux. I am sick of bananas but its helping so I do it.

This is one of the things I hate most. As soon as I'm awake I feel nauseous and it won't go away until I get up and have a cup of decaf tea and slice of toast. And it very often wakes me up at 5am. It's usually gone within an hour though thankfully.
I'd love to know what causes it. How can an empty stomach be nauseous?

@noelle you have anxiety issues or gerds? A lot of the time I eventually have burps rumble up from deep down and then I feel a bit better?? What the hell is this?! Anyone else feel this?!

Also,, I really don't have any burning sensation. Sometimes a lump in my throat , and some pressure, ALWAYS nauseous! With no burning feeling could I not even have gerds?!

Me too - morning nausea was my first symptom and the one that always "breaks through" when I'm not doing well. I found taking the PPI at night made quite a big difference. Raising the head of the bed helps a bit too. I used to find chewing DGL tablets on waking helped too.

I very rarely get the heartburn burn. There is a slight difference in heartburn and GERD. I typically get the queezy nausea, the lump in the throat and sometimes chest pains and sore throat and get especially afraid to burp. So you cant really go by the "burn", or at least for myself that is how it is. And if I have long periods of a flare up my muscles will cramp up and develop tender spots. The acid gets all through your system and makes for a rough go.

I take dexilant 60 mgs around 10 a.m. think I should move it to night time? Also think it would hurt if I took one tonight even tho I took one this morning? IM DESPERATE!! what are dgl tabs? Where can I get them?

I have started taking my NEXIUM at night right after I eat dinner and usually a TUMS after lunch everyday. Since I have done that I have had less severe issues. I am not familiar with dexilant but I would think you may want to try and power through until tomorrow if you can because that sounds like a high mg amount. Maybe someone that knows that one can answer better.
I would also like to know what a DGL tablet is..

Suggested helpful information on correct time to take your medications. Suggest you read (verify with doc). It will answer a lot of questions and help nausea. Wish you well. Hope y'all feel better real soon. Let us know if this helps. Pat

DGL is licorice that has been deglycinerinzed.

I would talk to your prescriber about night time cover. I just know that taking it in the morning was clearly AFTER the reflux had happened overnight and the effects most certainly did not carry me through to the next morning. My GI cons said it was ok to take my ppi at night. Since then I've been on Zantac instead because of PPI side effects and I take it in two doses, one morning and one evening.

Other options would be splitting the dose so that the second dose is in the evening, or adding in Zantac at bedtime or Gaviscon at bedtime. All things to discuss with the doc and experiment with!

Hi!

Do you have abdominal pain in addition to the nausea? If so, you might want to rule out gastritis. GERD symptoms can sometimes lead to gastritis. The nausea is usually followed by complete loss of appetite and even diarrhea.

I am on Dexilant 60mg as well. Keep in mind that it also comes with side effects including nausea and stomach pain.

If it continues, I think you should definitely get it checked out.

Deb, I did have abdominal pains about a week and a half ago, pretty much stopped now but I have lost appetite a bit but this usually happens when my anxiety flares like now. I often feel like I have to burp and until I do,, in sick to my stomach. But no diarrhea really. I dunno :(

Deb - question for you about the abdominal pains. I sometimes get pretty good pains that I usually just pass off as cramps and usually happens most frequently after a bowel movement. At times the area is tender as well as painful. Do you think in your opinion it could be from the PPI? This is something that has baffled me for years and when I talk to my doctor about it he tends to just look at me like i am nuts.

Does anyone get throat clearing and neck pain? I have had digestive issues since 2011 and had nausea for a whole year with loss of appetite. In 2011-2012, I had every test imaginable and nothing showed up except slightly slow stomach emptying and gastritis.. It was horrible because I went from 118 pounds to 92 pounds...
Now, about six months ago, I started with chest pains...I checked out with the heart and was fine but then this mucous in the throat started and I am constantly clearing..I started back on Protonix 40 mg.nin morning for two weeks now..I just started 150 mg. of Zantac at night but very little improvement..and my neck hurts especially when lying down--not sure what is going on..I had a scope by ENT doctor who said it looks like "silent reflux"--goes anyone know how long the meds take to work?

Proton pump inhibitors can cause delayed gastric emptying. When you have delayed gastric emptying your stomach is not breaking down the food quickly enough so food and acid are being pushed back up in your esophagus. Symptoms can include: nausea , stomach pain especially after eating, GERD, abdominal distention, bloating, burping, and in worse cases vomiting

The food stuck in your throat is called globus sensation. The throat becomes inflamed from the acid coming up which makes it feel like there is food stuck in your throat.

There are many medications that can cause delayed gastric emptying. However, doctors do not recognize proton pump inhibitors as being one of the medications.

If a medication caused delayed gastric emptying, it usually will reverse itself once you are off the medication. However to get off a Proton pump inhibitor you will have to go through acid rebound to get off the medication. Acid rebound is why most people have problems trying to get off their PPI. You will need to google acid rebound before you stop taking your PPI so you will know what to expect.

Abdominal fullness can be another symptom of delayed gastric emptying, since food is setting in your stomach too long and not being broken down quickly enough.

The mucus in your throat is the bodies way of protecting you from the acid that is coming up
