Hi Lisa,Welcome to Healing Well! Glad you've joined the forum. I had a Nissen fundoplication surgery in February 2009. FYI here's a link to my early recovery journal:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=2183443 I had my surgery because reflux was causing my asthma to be uncontrollable. A Nissen Fundoplication can create a much better quality of life to the right candidate for the surgery. It sounds as if you've had all the necessary testing.
Just make sure your surgeon is extremely experienced with the Nissen procedure. It is definitely an art form, and it takes a lot of practice. Try to find out how many of the surgeries he/she has done and the outcomes. It's very important to select the right surgeon, and for that surgeon to select the right surgical patient.
It is wise, as 1039smooth recommended, to attempt to control things via meds and diet change if possible. I tried that for many years, and they didn't work. I just wish I'd had the surgery much sooner, and the improvements post-Nissen were amazing.
Good luck with your decision/upcoming surgery!
Best wishes,
Denise
