sexual intercourse after fundoplication

Hi All,

I had a revision fundoplication 12 days ago. I am wondering what the consensus is on returning to sex after this operation. Most guidance refers to returning to sex as soon as you feel up to it/no pain is caused. I am feeling paranoid as I just participated and felt a strong sore sensation at the wrap site as my abdominals tensed at the end. I wasn't moving around much at all (for fear of activating the stomach muscles) but at the point of climax (apologies to be so graphic) I felt a deep pulling soreness as my stomach clenched and now the heartburn sensation. Obviously I won't be doing this again for a while, but am wondering how others approach the timing of this and if anyone else started sexual activity perhaps too early, felt sore but ended up fine? Any reassurance would be appreciated. I though I would be ok if took it easy, as I am not in pain anymore other than a bit of bruising at the port holes.

I didn't discuss sex with my surgeon, but wish I had.

Sorry to bother you with this self inflicted problem, but I am now in a panic as worked so hard for this op and the recovery. I hope I haven't blown it.

Thanks Bill for responding; I wasn't sure if anyone would, given the subject matter. I saw my surgeon this morning and he thought no damage done, though suggested I refrain for the next month. I would have found more structured post operative guidance on this issue helpful. I think the "when you feel ready" is a little dangerous as I felt ready, but then got myself into problems! I think mine is a cautionary tale; next time I need a revision (hopefully 10 yrs plus), I'll treat marital relations in the same way as vigorous exercise in terms of letting time lapse before commencing.
