Does anyone else have an irregular z line in their esophagus? my doc didnt seem too worried about
it, but i am. He said it is very common with people who have Gerd. Does anyone else have this? My doctor never mentioned this to me i saw it on my biopsy report and asked about
it. Thank you!

Yep had one for a long time. It went away after my nissen. It is really common with GERD.
It's one of the tip offs you have it.
Take care,
Bill

Thank you bill! My doctor never mentioned it to me. I saw it myself and questioned it. He said it's linked to barretts. So I'm wondering why they don't mention this to you.

The way I understood it is that the irregular Z line is a sign of reflux and kind of like scarring for lack of a better word. But not an actual change in the cells like Barretts and such.
Guess it could be like a precursor for Barretts like Barretts is for dysplasia. Anyway it's something they look for to get an idea of what is going on.
I have found that quite a few GIs aren't great communicators. Not sure why though.
Take care,
Bill

That happens!
Some of the terms they use just don't sound pleasant!

I've asked some other people about
it ad no one even knows what it is l. Which I guess is normal because they didn't bother to explain that part to me it took myself to look at the report and ask. Did they explain that to you? Oh also I will be asleep during my pH study. I guess he figures that since they will put me to bed to dilate me they might as well do the study at the same time.

Yeah I had a hiatal hernia. That repair is still good since my 1st nissen in 06.
I'm a bit confused on your PH study though. A study is usually for 24 to 48 hours long. They can put in the probe or bravo while you are out, but it's not something they can complete while you are out.
Take care,
Bill

I've actually heard of other people who also have had it while sleeping. I don't have a hital hernia. I just have an irregular z line :/

I have both an irregular z line and hiatal hernia, but no action was taken. I would like it corrected so that maybe I can feel normal again. I don't know. I'm 33 so I figure I'd heal well from any surgical procedure

I have a hiatal hernia and irregular Z line. My Dr. saw no reason for concern. I think the Z-line is pretty much going to be irregular if you have a hiatal hernia (I know that in your case, you don't). In any case I have it as well and it was not a concern to my Dr.
What freaked me out about
it was Dr. Kaufman had referred in an article or something to an irregular Z-line as "pre-barrett's", but my Dr. said that is nonsense.

Stephcom81 I have a hital hernia as well. My doctor wasn't too concern with it but I am. Are ppis helping you at all? I still have symptoms everyday I'm eating in surgery.
