9 weeks after nissen fundoplication

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me, or has experienced anything similar to me at all and what the outcome of this was.

I had a nissen fundoplication operation performed 9 weeks ago due to acid reflux causing chest pain and acid taste in the mouth, which were constant and preventing me from functioning normally. The first week after the surgery, despite healing pains, I had no reflux whatsoever! I thought everything had gone perfectly. Around the second week, the feeling of burning under my breastbone returned. It has got worse since - peaking at weeks 3-4 where I was unable to sleep at all. Currently it has worsened again, and I have been put back on omeprazole 40mg, ranitidine 300mg and metoclopramide. However, the medications do not appear to be helping on this occasion, whereas before the op they did at least take the edge off.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar - and what was causing it? I am rather desperate at this point, as I feel awful on a day to day basis, with no way of resolving things.

Hi, I see you posted this in August . Hopefully u r feeling much better now. I just had the nissen 6 days ago and already have acid back in my mouth . Could the operation have not worked? I can't believe after the years of trouble before , I thought the Nissen would help. How r you doing? Mgm

Have you tried Elavil?

Also, nexium 40mg twice daily worked best for me.

I am now about 5 months after the nissen surgery - and unfortunately am still suffering from chest pain. It is not as bad as it was before however is still present! Omeprazole does nothing, and I have had a 24 hour ph probe which showed I was no longer refluxing. So mystery is still open I guess....

At 6 days it is likely the heartburn feeling is just swelling and will pass. This is the norm for most people, and it is actually not uncommon to get heartburn like feelings in the first month. So don't panic, in all likelihood the surgery will be a raging success.

And I have just been prescribed amitryptyline 10mg a day, however I am nervous to try it at the moment! Did you find it helped you?

what about the acid taste in your mouth ? is it better now ?
