Here comes another impedance study in a few days. This past week has been pretty terrible for me, but I wish I could've had the test sooner than this. Yesterday I had a day where my symptoms weren't so bad, and this has been the case on my previous impedance too. Today I'm back to my usual god-awful symptoms, but what do I do if they don't show up on the day of the test?

Last time I made sure to eat junky foods, keep moving, drink more water, remove the bed wedge etc but things didn't work out. What's the best trigger to make the reflux show up? (There's a question I never thought I'd ask..!) I'm worried because if this one comes back clear nobody will believe me when I say I have LPR.

chocolate, fizzy drinks, coffe, sweets, chilly spicy foods.

Acidic foods - yoghurt, ice cream all dairy, tomatoes, spices and chocolate

Ok I'll keep these in mind. Today I haven't had any of those things though - alkaline water, chicken, weetabix and vegetables come to mind - and I keep burping acid.

Hi Daxter

It takes time of your effects to perish soon.

If you have a Large quantities of foods, it will put a pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, it weak it and will allowing stomach digest and acids to back up in your esophageal, this causes indigestion and reflux.

If you are overweight or average, you need to slim your belly completely to eliminated pressure on your lower esophageal sphincter.

Have you been tested for h.pylori? if not than best do it as soon as you can!

Is that something that happens in a normal person without GERD/LPR though? Also I'm taking ferrous sulphate (iron) supplements right now; would they cause/contribute to reflux?

ferrous sulphate are iron supplements that you are taking because you are iron is slow right? It doesn't cause it but you know you can have spinach, it has a high iron it and doesn't even cause acid reflux!

Well it happens to a normal person as overweight or average, if drinks alot of fizzy drinks and chocolates and spicy foods, even from h.pylori, also from stress and depression as it causes acid reflux.

If you are results comes back for with good of your lower esophageal sphincter that is strong and no loose, that's a good news, lets just wait and see your results to come! As for me I have on Monday to do the test as this weeks coming! I just hope my lower esophageal sphincter is strong so I can make it stronger as doing exercise and loosing fat in by belly to stretch it harder to eliminate the pressure in my stomach

I asked the doctor who inserted the wire for my PH/Impedence test what I should eat and he said that up until two days ago he would have said eat the things you like that would normally set off your reflux symptoms. However, the consultant I'm under had advised him that his patients must stick to their low acid diet during the test. I said that doesn't make much sense! He replied with "No, it doesn't to me either, so look, just eat what you like" (with a wink!)

I have a hiatal hernia and GERDS. Does this mean I have a weak lower esophageal sphincter?

I am sorry but I can't give you the answer that I don't know, you need to do Manometry and ph 24 monitoring to see your lower esophageal sphincter how it is!

The scope is out... and here's the EXTREMELY frustrating part. 3 hours after it is out and I can't stop burping acid up. During the probe? Nothing. Absolutely no acid burps for 24 hours. Just why?! I ate all the junk food in advance, I stopped the meds, I did the 'forbidden' actions like sleeping pillowless or bending over. Now the test is done and my tongue is on fire from LPR, compleye with a taste like mint mixed with earwax. Why didn't this happen during the test?! Why did my symptoms change to excess burping instead of spewing up the acid I have now?!

I'll never get the surgery now. That was my last test for reflux I can get for a very long time. Nobody believes me when I say I'm burping acid, and the tests are blocking my symptoms for some reason. What in the world am I going to do?

daxter, the exact same thing happened to me. I think something about having the wire physically there or current from the wire causes the spinchter to tighten up. In my opinion the test can be completely inaccurate.

After a year and a half of consistent symptoms, they were suddenly(almost miraculously) gone. I was even able to lay flat. As soon as it came out, it all started up again. so frustrating, I'm sorry you had the same experience.

Oh Gods, how am I going to convince them of that idea? I feel hopeless, and have been having very dark thoughts. If I cannot prove I am suffering then I'm scared I'm going to end my suffering. This is like a nightmare.

Daxter, I am exactly the same, as soon as that darn wire is in - nothing, it's like the sphincter closes up against it, then as soon as it's out wham the acid is back.

What about the Stretta, would that not help you?

Sorry, I've just burst in to tears. I feel like I have nothing left now. I can't get Stretta here for the same reason I can't get LINX or even Nissen. I can't prove I am ill.

Never mind the rules right now, I'm going to say it flat out. Reflux had ruined my life and will ruin the rest of my lide. I want to die but I can't bring myself to torment my family. Needless to say I will not live with this otherwise untreatable (at least in my case) disease, and will take any action possible to end my suffering if I cannot be cured.

I thank you all for your help so far but this is where I reach my limit. God is mocking and tormenting us, and I for one am not strong enough to take anymore of it.

Daxter I'm so sorry you're feeling so down right now. I know the test results can be a real kick in the teeth but they are only a snapshot, one day or one moment in our life of reflux. The symptoms make up the clinical picture and that still is what it is, whether there's matching pathology or not.

Please talk to your GP about how you are feeling right now - I know you can't see a way forward at the moment but there will be one. However, until you find it, or it finds you, you need to get some help and support coping with this.

daxter, must admit sometimes I feel the same, I do appreciate your honesty, but please don't give up yet. there are other ways to prove reflux, was any damage evident on your endoscopy(did you have an endoscopy?)

Pink has recently posted about getting some relief with a custom reza band type collar. I also read there is a new study starting next year about something they can insert that may act like a LES( I think it was something like that)

It seems like if the test can prevent reflux, there should be a treatment idea in there somewhere.

Hang in there Daxter, I know it's not easy. I have chronic LPR and GERD and the Nissen did me no good. Talk about a letdown! Your posts do scare me a little bit though and I'd hate to see a good person hurt themself. Have you looked into counseling at all? Having someone to talk to might give you the courage to face this problem in a way that anonymous individuals on a message board can't. The other thing I recommend is not being consumed by your disease. I lose my voice everyday and get so congested from nasal drip that it affects my speech. Still, I live everyday like I'm a regular Joe with small adjustments. Good luck man, we are here for you.

Daxter the Reza Band has arrived in the UK - please see my other post about it, I am going next week to get the real thing.

I do find that it helps and I urge you to contact the company distributing them and get yourself one.

Please keep your chin up, I know exactly how you feel, reflux has also ruined my life, but don't ever quit, we will find a solution somewhere

Well, I never thought I'd actually get any worse than before. I ate a small KFC - no other options - and now...

There's a bubble/lump of what feels like gas stuck in my throat all the time, I feel I need to burp/pass gas too much, I get nausea and indigestion, lacklustre saliva and I belch acid. To top it off, when these symptoms DON'T happen, I become short of breath and filled with mucus instead. It's no win. Of course people say it's all in my head, but they can't taste the acid or feel the small lump. I feel hopeless, and none of the tests can find my LPR. Is there any chance of me getting LINX surgery without definitive proof of my reflux on paper? I'm going to have to be bluntly honest; It's the one thing stopping me from suicide or losing my mental stability at the very least.

You should find yourself a distraction Daxter, hurting yourself is taking steps back and not forward. Are you working? Try to redirect your energies to your job. Same if your in school or have a hobby. We all can tell you that reflux is life changing, just don't let it get the best of you.
