Is it safe to take 2 Pepcid Complete tablets in one day?

I've never taken Pepsid Complete, but when I did a little research, I found this website:

It says:
Do not use more than 2 chewable tablets in a 24-hour period unless directed by your health care provider.

So it sounds as if it's fine to take two in a day. I'm not sure if you can double up and take two at the same time. You might call your PCP and see what they suggest. It's worth a try!

I went from 40mg of protonix a day down to 1 Pepsid Complete a day just by changing the way I eat. I find I have less problems now too so I hope it works out for you.

After doing some research with Google I found that if taking Calcium Carbonate then you need to make sure that you don't exceed a total of 2000mg of calcium (from all sources of food or supplements, not just the antacid) per day. The recommended amount is between 1000mg and 1500mg per day depending on the source. For long term use I would not use more than 2 tablets a day as you can run into problems with too much calcium in your blood stream.

I also found that Magnesium daily recommended intake is 300mg - 400mg a day. This also falls in the range for the maximum amount of Pepcid Complete per day. Magnesium, like calcium, plays a vital role in our bodies. It seems to have a lot of roles. Doing a Google search for "Magnesium role in body" will show you a lot of information.

Another thing to note is that in order for the calcium to not cause any problems is to make sure you are getting enough vitamin D, which is needed to help absorb calcium. But there's also side effects with too much of that too. I don't drink milk or eat much cheese so the only calcium I get is from vegetables and from the Pepsid Complete. I'm not sure if I get enough vitamin D in the winter though because of my limited exposure to the sun but during the summer I get a lot of exposure.

If I were you I'd look into the effects of too much of different minerals on how they effect the body and how you can balance things out in order to make things work for you. Based on my limited research though I would highly recommend to not take more than the daily limit, especially if you plan on taking them long term as it would most likely cause more harm than good. If you speak to a Dr. and they say it would be fine to do so, I would question them about long term effects on the individual ingredients as I've found that some Drs. aren't too knowledgeable with these things. At least that is what I've experienced. I hope this helps you make your decision.

I would also like to thank you for asking this question as I had never thought about that before and after doing some research I have learned a bit more.

There's another approach you can take if you wanted to up your dosage of Famotidine without worrying about high levels of calcium and magnesium. The purpose of Pepsid Complete is to provide you with instant heartburn relief with the use of Calcium Carbonate and Magnesium Hydroxide while also giving you lasting relief with Famotidine. This however, is not the only source of Famotidine from Pepsid. They also have Pepsid AC which comes in two strengths. There's the original strength that contains 10mg of Famotidine and also maximum strength that contains 20mg of Famotidine. This would allow you to increase the Famotidine amount without needing to worry about the other ingredients because Pepsid AC doesn't contain them, or any other ingredient that I can find for that matter.

My opinion is that you are heading in the right direction as Famotidine is an H2-blocker, which blocks the histamine H2 receptors while a PPI is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks acid production from the acid pumps if you will. It has been proven that PPI's are more powerful and able to block more acid but that's not necessarily a good thing. The reason for this is because we need acid production in order to break down food. If you notice food still sitting in your stomach after a few hours then that could mean you are not producing enough acid to break it down properly which could also result in bacteria build-up. So by taking a weaker medication, such as an H2-blocker, you are allowing your body more stomach acid so that you can digest food properly and keep the bacteria at bay. There's a lot of speculation and unknowns as to the actual causes of stomach acid imbalances and underlying causes of acid reflux, but I believe it comes down to the foods we eat. The only question I have though is why are some affected while others aren't? While we may never have a definite answer, I do know what has been working for me so I continue down that path.
