nexium & bloating

Hi,
Just wondering whether anyone taking nexium and experiencing any bloating/belching?

I've been on nexium for almost 6 months for reflux esophagitis. 40mg/day for 4 months and now weaning off nexium slowly 40,30,20,10mg and currently 10mg every 2nd day.

Before nexium my symptoms were mainly bloating, sour taste in mouth, burning chest and throat.
After 4 months with 40mg nexium, my endoscophy showed that my esophagus was clear, but the bloating has never ceased.
My doc dismissed the bloating as hypersensitivity and prescribed me amitriptyline/elavil which I'm currently at 25mg/day.

After taking elavil 25mg for more than a month still the bloating is there. Sometimes I feel more bloated, sometimes less bloated and i'm not sure what triggers it.

I wonder whether the gas/bloating actually is a side effect from nexium.
But again, now I'm at 10mg every 2nd day plus 25mg elavil, yet the bloating is still there. I do feel better compared when i was still taking 40mg or 20mg nexium.
My doc suggested that i keep adding the elavil dosage as he believes it's just my esophagus hypersensitivity.

Anyone has the same experience?
if it's a side effect of nexium, anyone knows how long it will last?
i'm scared of upping my elavil dosage as i heard this drug is also not easy to get off from.

How did you find out that you developed gastroparesis after ppi?
Did you go for the gastroparesis test before and after ppi you started ppi?

Reason me asking is that, I did the gastroparesis test before commencing with ppi and the result was negative. And my doc believes that it is imposible that ppi could cause nerve damage resulting gastroparesis, but from what I read from many sources on internet, it is possible that low stomach acid (from using ppi) causes indigestion and with it comes delayed stomach emptying.
Another thing is, with ppi, we have greater chance of having SIBO (small bacteria overgrowth), candidasis and symptoms of SIBO, candida are overlapping with reflux etc (plus diarrhea maybe). So it's really confusing to pinpoint what the underlying problem is unless we go for tests?

From what you know, how long do you think that this delayed stomach emptying from ppi will last?
Since if that's the case, once the ppi is stopped or reduced then we should feel better, shouldn't we?
I have reduced ppi from 40mg/day to 10mg every 2nd day, yet the bloating seems to be all over the place even though I eat EXACTLY the same thing everyday! And my doc dismisses all this to my esophagus being sensitive and wants me to just up the Elavil :(

Acid rebound (hyper-secreation of acid) can occur with both PPI and H2-blocker. Even when you slowly wean off these drugs, you will still experience acid rebound. Since it is difficult to get off these medications because of acid rebound, I recommend ulcers, gastritis, etc..be healed up before going through acid rebound.

There are a lot of supplements that I have heard people using that go through acid rebound...for example: ....slippery elm, mastic gum, DGL licorice and mashmallow root. I do not have much information on these supplements, so you would have to do your own research on them if you consider using them. I've read that slippery elm is suppose to help coat the throat/esophagus.

In my opinion, the PPIs are all the same. I dont know that one is better than the other. They can all slow digestion and lead to delayed gastric emptying. I am not a fan of H2-blockers either. The PPIs I was taking was omeprzole and dexilant.

I am now completely off all PPIs, H2-blockers, and no longer take tums either. None of this medication works like it used to before I developed delayed gastric emptying. It just makes the problem worse.
