Hi,
This is my first post on this forum about what I've been going through. I'll try to keep things brief.. I'm 28 and have been suffering with this for a number of months now, and intermittently for years. I've only recently wised up to what it is or may be. GP's don't seem to know the first thing about this condition, which is very frustrating.
I have been diagnosed with LPR, I saw Dr Martin Birchall, a leading research scientist and Professor of Laryngology at University College London Hospital. My symptoms are-
Throat clearing
Burping/belching
Throat pain, predominantly left side
Raspy breathing on inspiration
Hoarse voice
Pain when swallowing
I do NOT have heartburn or a bitter taste in my mouth. I have had the following tests-
OGD (camera in my oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum). This was normal apart from a small amount of inflammation at my SCJ - a biopsy was taken and waiting for the results. There was however ZERO evidence of erosive reflux.
Nasendoscopy (camera through my nasal passage up to my vocal cords). I had a generalised odema of the area, not particularly severe but very present, and injected/inflamed vocal cords.
I have tried Omeprazole, 40mg twice daily to no effect, and the Specific Carb Diet to no effect. I also tried Dr Koufman's low acid diet to no effect. Norm Robillard has an interesting concept, similar to SCD relating to fermentation of carbs that I've considered giving a go, until I came across Elavil.
Please can you post your success/story relating to Elavil /other similar drugs?
Please note, if you have heartburn, or if you get an acid taste in your mouth / burning throat, then please do not post as I feel what we have is different. Heartburn and burning throat are likely caused by poor LES and UES function as acid washes up into the oesophagus and larynx causing damage. My damage (and I'm sure I speak for a lot of people) seems to come from aerosolized reflux or some other source.
I have had this for a long time and I, like most, am at my wits end. Any help / advice / thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve.
