I get dry throat at night especially, but it's winter and house is dry, more so at night when the heat's on. On top of pain meds drying out my mouth and throat, very dry air can be pretty miserable.
Drinking a lot of water doesn't help me. It just gets me up in the night for the bathroom. I don't get a lot of mouth help from over-the-counter mouth rinses either. A nasal gel like Ayr helps with preventing nose "crusties." Doing a sinus wash fixes up the morning headache from dryness.
Mucinex 12-hour helps me in the winter - keeps mucus thin. It helps with both sinuses and mouth. You can try that along with the nasal gel.
I have a good furnace-based humidifier, but it's still pretty dry here in the north in winter. A humidifier is a good thing though. Just keep the filter clean!
GERD is not responsible for everything, but for some people it does cause throat irritation. I wouldn't blame it too quickly though, unless you have the symptoms summer and winter, no matter if the house is dry or moist.
