I wouldn't be on a raw food diet, especially when needing acid reducers that reduce your ability to digest these hard foods. Avoid believing testimonials you read on the internet. If there's no scientific study it's not science.
You can do a search in the search box at the top of the page for more information.

I haven't done raw food, but I went to strictly vegetables and fruits, no tomatoes, no citrus, last week and it helped calm my rebound down. It's not perfect but I can sleep in my own bed now.

I try to eat as many raw foods as possible but I do it making 'smoothies' and juices. I have a NutriBullet, for smoothies and I add raw nuts and seeds, too. about
3x per week, I make juices in a juicer using spinach, celery, carrots, ginger root, apples, fresh pineapple and such. These are easier on the digestive system and you can be sure you're getting good, solid nutrition.
I have trouble with almost everything I eat but these juices and smoothies don't cause too much distress and they taste good, too.

Parameda, I think, I know what post you read on the Crohn's disease forum that made you ask the above question. If you intended to ask, if raw diet were the cure / management for GERD alone, then the answer would be
NO
. No chance in short term; it may probably take over one year. I myself have been eating raw green leafy vegetables (Carrots, Cabbage, Endive, Radicchio - 200g) every day for more than 8 months now. I don't think I have healed GERD
completely
. I however drink two cups of black coffee and tea without acid reflux (I don't experience any acid reflux even, if I drink them after a heavy fatty or protein meal).
So, my conclusion is - GERD is a complex symptom. It requires a complete lifestyle change. I would suggest you to eliminate all the processed foods, sugar, preservatives etc. and eat wholesome foods. Try to cook everything at home, so that you know what ingredients you are putting in. All the best.

Thank you all for your replies. Usher, I understand you're drug free? If so, it is huge improvement. I am trying to find a way to reduce symptoms and get off of h2 blockers.

Parameda, Yes, I have been off medicines. I have visited the doctor only a couple of times in those 8 months. Earlier, visiting doctor had become my full-time job! It's nice that you want to go off H2 blockers. I would recommend you a low carbohydrate diet, as you could go off the medication in a week. I was taking pantoprazole. After, I came to know that GERD was actually caused by hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) rather than high gastric acid, I discontinued it. I would recommend you to read the book, "Why stomach acid is good for you - Jonathan Wright". The acid blocker had actually made my condition worse. I would pass green stool with a lot of undigested food. I would like to mention the digestive supplements that I took in the beginning (I don't need them anymore).
1. Doctor's Best Betaine HCI Pepsin and Gentian Bitters - HCL acid supplement
2. Now Foods Candida Support Formula - To get rid of Candida
3. NOW Foods Super Enzymes - Digestive enzymes
4. Garden of Life Vitamin Code Men - Multi-vitamin supplements
Don't hesitate to write to me, if you need any further assistance.

My diagnosis is gerd, gastritis and dyspepsia and i definitely suffer from having/producing way too much acid. My GI doc is really great, but meds won't fix me and I'm more than scared of nissen, so I was thinking that certain diets could help. Thank you for your help, especially with candida treatment, that one is a pain.

If you have gastritis then a raw food diet will probably cause you a lot of problems. Fibre is above even fat in the length of time the stomach takes to pass it through, better off sticking to well cooked and smooth foods imo.

Hi. I wouldn't try a raw diet. A high fibre diet seems to be helpful for managing GERD but eating only raw food would. I think, be a step too far. Our digestive systems have not evolved to extract energy from green stuff (other than a few vitamins). A diet that consisted of lots of fruit and root vegetables would be high calorie but low on protein and also lack some vitamins that are fat-soluble. I imagine that is is also pretty boring and difficult to live with - just eating salads and fruits. Animals that eat only raw plant food have very different digestive systems to ours.
Plants contain enzymes - but not human digestive enzymes.
Reducing the waistline is one of the best ways to help yourself and a high fibre diet, as part of a balanced diet, might help.

i'm throwing my two cents even though i don't have gerd, i have lpr.
i'm up to about
50% raw. it's helping tremendously. i don't think i will go above 60%. as linda sue, i use a nutrininja (almost the same as a nutribullet) and i throw in raw root vegetables, celery and parsley and/or arugula and blend until chunky so i still have chew a little but not to much! and throw it on top of kelp noodles (which has sodium alginate! i look at this noodle as medicine. this really keeps helps me keep the food down! i have basically no phlegm for hours after eating them!)
