Hello trotters,
Breathing issues are a scary thing, I can't say for sure whats really going on with me. I've been to the mayo docs in Minnesota and I was diagnosed with hypersensitivity. The asthma doctors their said that I had something in my throat that causing my breathing issues and that it was not lung related. It was my upper airway that was the problem.
The methacholine challenge was slightly helpful, just for the fact that I found out that I did have restriction in my airway after doing the challenge and that a inhaler did help a little, but the doc did say that it was my upper air, specifically my throat that was the problem... so pretty much my LPR causing some kind of vocal cords dysfunction. I went to see jamie Koufman after going to mayo and she found that my left vocal cord vibrates a lot. Which could cause the feeling of not getting enough air in.
What helps me.
Breathing from the stomach
Staying relaxed and realising that it's just nerve endings that are sensitive.
Gabapentin helps me a bit. More so than the anti acid meds.
A very alkaline diet. Breads, Fish, Tater Tots haha
If you're having problems breathing in, it's more likely to be from LPR bothering your nerve endings in your throat or bothering your vocal cords causing a vocal cord dysfunction. An inhaler shouldn't help to much with this, unless you have restriction in your lower airway also.
If you're having problems breathing our, it's more likely your lower airway/lungs. An inhaler should help out with this.
Hi TheSixness,
May I ask if you take Gabapentin daily or can you just take it when when required? The reason I ask is that it was suggested to me for sensitivity by a surgeon last year, but my doctor wasn't sure it was the right way to go.
