I had swallowing problems a little over a year ago due to GERD and Bill was a big help to me. I saw an ENT twice then and he found nothing. I am a once again very concerned about not being able to swallow. I also have a head cold and the nasal drip is driving me crazy!! My throat feels inflamed, I can barely swallow pills, I'm scared to death to eat. I feel like I am going to choke. My GI has put me back on Dexilant once a day from Prevacid. I am miserable, worried, anxious and down right tired. I had a scope in August of 2013 and I was dilated but no Barrets or bad damage. Could it have blown into cancer in just over a year!?!?! I completely changed my diet, lost 35lbs, don't drink any soda, tomato products, nothing spicy, take licorice tabs, take my meds religiously, never go to bed until at least 3hours after eating, sleep on a wedge, had a swallow test in August of 2013 and all was fine. So very sorry to ramble but I am at wits end. . . My best to all dealing with this horrible GERD . . . .

Have you been tested for H.pylori as Helicobacteria?

If not, best for you to take a stool sample as in tube and give it to your GP. H.pylori does creates GERD Temporary.

Try digestive enzymes and probiotics tablets. Don't use liquid probiotic take tablet . I've read other post that it has helped people with reflux. I myself have started taking digestive enzymes and probiotic tablet for reflux. Hope it works.

Ninjakiller1-- Yes I tested positive about 5 years ago for H.Pylori after a bad case of gastritis. I was treated and then tested again in 2013 and found that the test came back negative. They did a breath test though. I might request a new test using a stool sample as you suggest.

Mush 123--I have used enzymes in the past but have not tried probiotics. Do you have any suggestions for good/effective brands of each?

I am feeling a little better today. My head cold is getting better and I could swallow easier today. Thanks for the help!!

I did breath test as well as it came negative but I also did given my stool sample on the next day, as for stool sample cam positive, I had to go through antibiotics course again. Breath test sometimes it gives a false reading, I know doctors saying that is 100% accurate for breath test but for me it was a false negative, I am glad I did stool sample. You can get stool sample from your GP in reception, they might have in your side.

Thanks ninjakiller! I am going to try and have a H pylori test done using a stool sample. It might explain my consistent stomach pains. They aren't horrible but I always notice them as well. Still having trouble swallowing so my GI is scheduling me for an upper scope in the next couple of weeks I hope. I am best able to eat a little salad, but no meat because it feel as if I might choke. I have to really swallow hard to get it to go down. It's as if my throat muscles aren't strong enough to push the food down. This makes me extremely anxious to say the least. I'm sure the anxiety doesn't help the swallowing. I had a swallowing test done in 2013 that said everything was fine. If I am blessed enough to not have cancer this time, I am really thinking about having the stomach wrap or something of that nature. The difficulty swallowing is so bothersome to me. It always makes me feel as if I have cancer. My GI doesn't suspect that since I had a scope in August of 2013, and it didn't show Barrett's, strictures, or anything other than inflammation from GERD. I also feel like such a weakling for worrying about it so much. Thanks to you all for the encouragement that I always find here. I never post to any site about anything, but I come here and read everyone's stories and know that I'm not the only person that deals with this crazy stuff. None of my friends that have GERD ever have swallowing issues, so they look at me like I'm crazy. At least here, I see some other people have issues with it as well.
