The doc told us that the weight lifting 'caused' the weakening of the LES/diaphragm thus causing the reflux. I would definitely clarify this with your surgeon. I'd rather be free of the reflux and medicine and forget about the weight lifting. Also it can be a cause of a hernia that doesn't always show up on endoscopy or barium swallow. Sometimes they don't see the hernia until they can actually see the weakened/sloppy diaphragm inside and do the repair at that time. (I'd ask in advance how they would repair the hernia IF they found one-- by mesh or just some stitches. That would make strenuous weight lifting riskier-- in my opinion. ). (My family member was an Personal Fitness Trainer--but no longer).
Please know that I don't want to discourage you in any manner-- but want you to get all the answers in advance to your questions. Please keep writing as it helps so many. There is no yes or no answers as we are all different.
Hello Pat Tall. Thanks for your reply i really appreciate that people want to help each other. As It seems from the endoscopy i dont have a hiatal hernia but my GERD and esophagitis are troublesome when I excersise now. Before them, I didnt have any problems and now when I excersise I have problems with acid reflux (it comes up very often) and some difficulty at deep breathing (that must be caused by my damaged esophagus). So as you see,Even without surgery I can't do the things I like in a proper way.I haven't heard about
a hernia which not shows up on endoscopy and I will surely ask my doctor (thanks for mention). So as you see I "bet" at my young age and my good physical shape ! I will keep writing, especially after surgery :)
Thank you again.Sorry for my english but they are not my native language :)
