The Road of Life or daily check in

Hi all

I wanted to start a thread we had going for a long time a while back.

Some place to just pop in and let everyone know how they are doing that day, week, month, whatever. Even just to see how people are or what is going on in your life. Doesn't have to be GERD specific.

For me I've been super busy with taking care of mom, coaching softball, and hunting.

As some know my daughter is back at college. She plays softball for them and is a medical major. She is currently maintaining a 4.0 gpa and the team is carrying a 3.6gpa. The best gpa for a team in the 1st semester they have ever had.

I've managed to make it past the 3 year mark for my last nissen this past August. Seems weird since my longest stretch before this one was 2 yrs and11 months. I keep expecting to need some major surgery .

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a better 2015.

Well another year is ending and I'm getting old, older, probably the oldest member you have. But I have a decent attitude about aging and am very thankful for each and every moment. I love the holiday excitement, the beauty of the lights, the Christmas carols, wrapping gifts, and my daily walk on my beautiful beach that serves to remind me of so many things to be thankful for on each and everyday. I wish all of y'all the happiest holiday season and ask that you keep writing on our forum.

Great news on the barretts! I have had a couple without finding any and am on a 3 year schedule for the scope now. They still want to keep an eye on things, but with my history of surgery and the tear they are being very cautious and I am good with that.

Sounds like a great place. I was just mentioning to my wife today that I miss living on the beach.

Yep, she does make me quite proud. She has her game plan to be a physical therapist and is working very hard for her goal.
The shoulder is doing great. I have a lot more range of motion than I used to and can pitch again.
Sorry things are still so bad. This is a tough time of year for many.

I've been stressed, no doubt about it. Expecting a nephew or niece, Chrimbo preparations, stressful job at a petrol station, impedance testing, possible changes in career path, problems with the family pets. To top it off I've got another positive peptest, which nobody believes because the results are so low.

Phew.

I saw this thread and thought I would pop in for a few. I was very sorry to see that Kitt is no longer with us. She was an invaluable friend when I was going through my worst times after my Nissen. She will be missed by all. It is hard to believe it will be 4 years in April since I joined this group..

So happy to hear that you are doing so well and that your daughter is achieving such amazing goals in college and in soft ball. It sounds like she is a very determined young lady. She has a very determined Dad, so I would expect nothing less!!

I have been well, the heart is still beating and I have a few issues but, nothing to complain too much about. I am still not able to eat bread. But that is about the only thing I cannot eat at this point. I feel blessed that I have been relatively free of problems ever since my Nissen.

How are your grandchildren?? I am sure they are growing too fast to suit you. I know my granddaughter is 6 going on 16. She is still in dance and loves it.

This is such a great idea!

I just had a follow up with my GI doc, I'm about 4 months post-nissen. I'm doing mostly better, but I've had a few relapses of reflux and heartburn that I'm trying not to get too worked up about. I'm studying for a really stressful professional certification so I'm chalking it up to that.

Bill, what a wonderful idea! It's always great to have an opportunity to communicate as friends here on the forum!

It was our dear Kitt, who started this tradition, and she leaves a big hole in our lives. She was the first one to welcome me when I posted to my very first thread a few weeks before my surgery in 2009. Over the years, she became a dear friend to many of us, and as she used to say, was loved, "to the moon and back!" There will never be anyone like her, and we were so glad to have known her!

Yes, Sandi, I'm having lots of fun with my grandkids...who are 4 and 2. They are growing up so fast! Our family celebrates together on Christmas Eve, so I'm busy getting things ready for tonight. I'm sure you're loving every moment of your beautiful dancing granddaughter!

I don't have time to respond to each person individually right now, but once things settle down, I'll get back on this thread and chat with you all!

Hi Bill,

The woods and a guitar gig...two fun places to be! I'm with you celebrating your ability to keep your distance from those darned hospitals! Be sure to keep up the good work!

We've been extra-busy with our grandkids, as their mom has been working a lot, and our son/their dad had the flu one week, and the vomiting bug the next week. We have had them over for sleepovers to help out. It's great fun to have them with us, but exhausting! I just hope we don't catch the stomach bug that has been going around their family. My hands are all dried out from washing them over and over all day!

Hi all

Well softball season begins tomorrow night!

My daughter's college team left for Alabama to play this weekend and my travel team is playing in an indoor tournament starting at 10:30pm tonight.

Unfortunately my daughter took a pitch to her elbow earlier this week and has to sit out for 2 weeks until the doc gives her the okay to play again. Bummer she will miss 8 games.


I'd really like to be in Alabama watching her team play as we have high hopes for this years team with the Fall season they had. It's tough trying to go watch her play and coach my team at the same time.

Sorry I missed your post while I was at the tourney.

Yeah that makes no sense when you have the chance to rest and injury, do so.
We have been passing around the nasty bug going around this area for a month or 2. Can't wait til Spring!

Anyhow...updates on softball

My daughter actually made it back a week ahead of schedule. She was able to play in last weekends games with very minor discomfort. Mostly just left hand strength.

They came away with 4 more wins and are off to a 8 and 0 start. They are in Chattanooga, Tn. today and have 4 more games this weekend.

As for my team well it wasn't the weekend we had hoped for, but we did hold our own and made great strides in becoming a team. The 1 and 2 record didn't show what really went on. They very well could have won the whole thing. A last inning coaching decision probably cost us the 1st game, but we went in with a plan to switch pitchers after the 4th inning.

They bounced back great the next game and the same pitcher threw a 1 hitter. The 3rd we needed 1 more inning as the ladies were making a come back and dropped the game by 2.


So 2 more weeks until we play again and the ladies are more focused than ever!

Glad they finally did something! Now just be sure to let yourself heal.

My daughter plays and I coach fastpitch softball. Since switching to coaching softball I can't hardly stand to a baseball game anymore. Way to slow!

Just an update I got from my daughter. They lost both games tonight. She said it's 30 degrees and windy in Chattanooga.

Am still plodding along OK with the odd blip, fortunately they don't last too long. More suffering with the eczema - perhaps I should hop across to a different forum!

It's a cold and wet February half term here so the mudmagnets are either wired to Minecraft or out looking for mud!
