Hi all! I suffer from heartburn occasionally but no official diagnosis. It all started about 3 years ago with some chest discomfort. I told my Doctor and he referred me to a cardiologist for a stress test. Cardiologist said my heart was OK but to go buy some Prevacid and take for one month and then repeat every 3-4 months if necessary. I have not had a round of Prevacid since last August. Last week I started having some more discomfort in my chest. I am also constantly clearing my throat of mucus. Today when I cleared my throat, I was actually able to spit a bit out and it was bright red blood. Only a tiny amount but it's freaking me out. I don't usually have anything to spit up, I just swallow when I clear my throat. My doctor is not in today but I do have a med center nearby that I might go to this afternoon after work. I don't know if I can wait until tomorrow to go to my regular doctor! Any words of wisdom?

I've had that happen. Usually what I'm spitting out is post nasal drip. Although like you, I usually swallow it as it won't come out when I try to spit. And I've seen it tinged with blood. I always assumed it was coming from my nose which is very dry and probably cracked - hence the blood.

I had sure hoped to have a response from someone by now!

I am unable to see my doctor for several days. I did speak with my pharmacist and described everything (from heartburn to sinus issues) and he seems to think it's more likely GERD. He suggested I begin Prevacid today and thinks I am a candidate for taking it daily instead of short term like the heart doctor had told me to do 3 years ago.

I am still clearing my throat a good bit but no recurrence of blood or any kind of phlegm for that matter.

I am still very anxious over it all and would very much like some thoughts, advice! Please?

We must have been posting at the same time! Thanks so much specialone! I did notice very soon after that happened yesterday that when I used a kleenex up my nose, there was blood on the end. Just a touch, did not have a nose bleed but sometimes when I blow my nose there is a bit of blood or at least pink colored. This usually happens in the mornings when, like you, my nose seems to be very dry! I'm laying off the aspirin and allergy meds for awhile and just taking Prevacid for at least 2 weeks.

I think it may be more sinus related although I know I do have heartburn, whether it is GERD I am not sure. I need an endoscopy and will plan on that soon according to what my doctor says. I have to repeat colonoscopy every 5 years due to my Dad having colorectal cancer. I was hoping to do both at the same time but don't need a colonoscopy until 2 more years.

Hi I have blood every morning when I blow my nose, not a lot just streaks. I have bad post nasal drip due to GERD and can quite often taste blood but I'm never able to cough up the phlegm as disgusting as it sounds it has to be swallowed. My sister has gerd and has coughed up blood in her phlegm too and the doctor has said its common with gerd.

GERD and post nasal drip go together? My GERD has been bad lately. But you're probably right. That stuff dripping down my throat is probably aggrevating the GERD. I think you'll be fine. It's just that time of year when everything amps up!!

In my case, I have more LPR symptoms and the reflux reaches my throat, back if nose sinuses and sometimes my ears at night. I've been told by ENT that if I get my GERD fixed the post nasal drip should ease too. I have had MRI scans of my sinuses and allergy testing which is all negative. My post nasal drip is always significantly worse when my LPR is very bad.

It usually happens to me in the morning I had it fortnight of each month but little amount of blood. No cough or phlegm. I usually have a metallic taste in the mouth. I gargled with Apple Cider Vinegar and drank teaspoon of Aloe Vera juice. I had it one night when I have a very acidic tummy can't get a comfortable position in bed when I brush my teeth I spat a small amount of blood. I have new symptoms though it's Globus Sensation.
