Hi Patsy,Welcome to Healing Well! It's totally understandable to be nervous before surgery. This forum is a great place to hang out before and after your surgery, as there are many members who've been through the same procedure, and understand exactly what you're going through.
I don't know if you ran into my early recovery journal, but in case you missed it, here's the link:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=2183443 I didn't have a paraesophageal hernia, so my experience was a bit different, but there are a couple members here who've had that specific type of Nissen. I'm sure they'll be by to share their experience with you.
I was in the hospital overnight...I arrived early the morning of my surgery, and was released late morning on the next day. If your surgery is more complex, it might require a longer stay, but it's really your surgeon's preference, and sometimes insurance requirements that can determine length of hospitalization. Of course if there is a complication, it can require a longer stay. One day is pretty standard though.
Good luck!
Denise
