Hey everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I heard some very exciting news at a recent CME class that I was involved in. The CME class was based on therapies currently in development for the treatment of various CNS disorders. Evidently, the moderator told us that 1 of the pharmaceutical companies has identified a specific pathway that they believe induces TSLERs (the major reason why GERD happens) it's new drug class would be called - Metabotropic glutamate receptors subtype 5 (mGluR5) which would be G-protein-coupled receptors activated by glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian nervous system. This has a broad range of possibilities in treatment from anxiety disorders to GERD. As I sat there, I could not help to wonder how much GERD is induced by anxiety/depression or some other concommitant mental problem?
Great news, I think ... let's hope it pans out!
Hope that this finds everyone well ...
best,
