(No Subject)

I am wondering if anyone besides me has experienced hair loss prior to Hiatal Hernia/Gerd fix?

For a couple of years now, my hair has been thinning, and it seems I shed as much as our long-haired dog does!

By Week 12, I have noticed the shedding has almost quit, and my hair seems to be getting thicker and growing again. An unexpected bonus from having my stomach put back to rights!

Also, my seasonal allergies have improved immensely. Who knew!?

Have you experienced either or both of these phenomena?

I had horrendous hair loss too. Mine was actually after my fundo which hasn't been succesful unfortunately and was due to the high dose ppi I was taking. It stops your body absorbing vitamins apparently. Once I stopped my hair has thankfully thickened up. Stress was also a huge contributer too.
I also get allergy type symptoms particularly my sinuses and I'm told its due to reflux as allergy testing proved negative. I really hope very soon I have as succesful outcome as yourself. Good to hear a positive story.

At 2 weeks post fundo, it's too soon to tell if my hair loss will stop or even reverse. I've had anemia for several years that I am assuming was caused by my hernia and I think also directly caused my hair loss. Now that the hernia has been repaired I'm hoping the anemia is also gone and I can stop taking iron. If my hair grows in thicker, well what a nice additional benefit! It will take some time for that to sort out but now I'll be watching!
I see the surgeon tomorrow for the first time since surgery and I'm feeling great. Should I expect him to order some post fundo tests? I'm hoping not since I'd really like to let my body to be left to heal more for the time being but I suppose sooner or later someone will want some post surgery measurements. Did anyone have post tests? What should I expect?

Hey, Peg - My hair is getting better; I noticed it at Week 12. So you might have a little wait yet... Something to look forward to! I had anemia too; my Surgeon said I had an ulceration on the outside of my stomach where it was rubbing on the hiatus. Self-repair post-surgery on that one. (Or so he told my husband)

I had a follow-up with my Gastro-Guy about a month post-surgery. He set me up for endoscopy in October, which will be 8 months post-op. Said he wanted to make sure everything is staying put, and functioning well.

So, you may not have testing unless something isn't acting predictably. Or maybe you will..... can't say. For my own part, I don't want to SEE a doctor for a while. Enough already!

Oh, I forgot. For my two-week follow-up, chest x-rays were ordered. No sweat.
