In 2013, I had the first Nissen Fundoplication with Toupet surgery done at Emory University. Eight months post, my body was overcome by stomach acid. Saw the gastroenterologist, who performed an endoscopy, which showed I had developed Barretts Esophagus, and was prescribed 40 mg. Prilosec daily, which was a temporary lifesaver. I did not go back to Emory, however, got all the test transferred to S.E. Georgia Regional Hospital in Gainesville, GA., which is rated as a #1 hospital in the US. My surgeon there was rated as one of the tops, so, after all the tests were redone, I went in for the full wrap the first of this month. Am now three weeks post surgery. Everything is right on schedule.
I am 76, otherwise, in excellent health, eat mainly organic, no sugar, drink lots of water, and eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and stay away from the bad stuff.
My daily menu is as follows:7:30am Breakfast: scrambled egg, grits, 1/2 chicken sausage patty, coffee with coconut milk and stevia, 1/2 pear with Fage yogurt and 1/2 slim sliced toast. 10:30am meal:Swansons Jack laLane nutritional supplement, which contains all the vitamins/minerals needed.. 12:30 Lunch-tuna fish salad on toast, 1 cup Amy's Organic Veg.
Soup, Trader Joe's tiny ritz crackers with peanut butter 3:00pm Trader Joe's Blueberry snack bar and apple juice 6:30pm organic spaghetti sauce with bison, toast, peas and carrots. Dessert: 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream/ Sami's Millet and Flax cinnamon chips. They are delicious. Forgot...I do drink 1 glass of red wine (for now watered down)with dinner.
My 2nd appointment with the doctor will be the end of July, 2015, and he will begin testing to check the status of the Barretts Esophagus, in hopes that it will begin to fade away...
So far, this has been a truly wonderful trip, and the best part is seeing the overall improvement mentally, physically and emotionally.
