One other thing I'm trying to change diet before meds I don't really feel any acid or burning. But every time I eat I get into a burping frenzy and my HH might be causing some heart palpitations. Should I get on a PPI? I've heard bad things about what they can do to bones and increased stomach cancer rates. Anyone have any suggestions?
These are questions better suited for a Gastroenterologist because they will be more familiar with your medical history and other variables. Instead of just jumping on any PPI you should consult with a Gastroenterologist first.
Changing your diet is not only a good idea, but it will probably be necessary to allow your body the time it needs to heal itself.
Your heart palpitations do concern me though. They could be caused by your hiatal hernia, it could be caused by overeating, it could be caused by esophageal spasms, etc. There could be any number of reasons you could be having heart palpitations. The first thing I would recommend, if you haven't already, is to go see a cardiologist and have them check you out thoroughly.
Regarding Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) some people do very well on them and others don't.
By the way, does EGD stand for esophagogastroduodenoscopy? I'm asking because many people new to this forum or GERD issues might not know what it stands for.
