I am sorry. It was not my intention to provocate anybody. I am sorry again. I just know gerd. Sorry I do not know any other way to tell this. Tehere are a billion sufferers of gerd. Nobody was cured. They do not know the cause of gerd. That is why wrong diagnose and wrong therapie. Yes, Chris is right. Main culpit for gerd is low acid.
"Many people - also in this forum - have been PH-tested and had vast amounts of acid, which generated the issues."
This assertion is not true! As I know nobady was PH tested, means test acid in stomach. Nobody. There is BRAVO TEST. But that is not stomach acid test. There is Heildberg capsule test. The best test for stomach acid, It is too expencieve. 1500 euros. There is one cheap test. You can find it if you google stringgastrotest.
Your claim; " I agree that PPI's are not a permanent solution - but many people have great help from them. "
I can describe. If you have not enough acid in stomach, food and chime stay too long and rot and fermenting. It produce co2 and pressure. The pressure open les and content from stomach goes up in esophagus, That even weak acid , weak for stomach is too strong acid for esophagus, because esophagus can not handle with that even weak acid, we have hearburn. Gerd. Then come happy doctors with strong PPI. PPI stop production of acid. In our esophagus now I just fine. NO burning at all. PPI has "helped" us. Yes there is no more burning. but at what cost? without acid we will have overgrow helicon bacteria, ulcer, stomach cancer, duodenum ulcer cancer. Without acid all autoimmune d. Sibo, ibs. chron, psoriasis, etc etc. Without of acid no signal fo pancreas for its ensimes, malabsorption of carbohydrates, no signal for bile, malabsroption of fats. whole digestion is out. whiteout of acid we can not absorb any b vitamin or any mineral. Pernicious anemia, hashimoto osteoporosis .etc etc etc. Please, just test your stomach acid, In stomach not BRAVO test in esophagus. In stomach. Hope, this helps.
The problem with your advice Marko is that you are spouting off the same advice for nearly every problem people are putting forth here. You're entitled to your opinions, but if you know so much about GERD as you say you do, then you would also realize that it's a very individual problem and there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. That is why I found your posts dangerous.
There are many reasons why people have GERD and not all of those reasons are known by science. To state that everyone doesn't have enough stomach acid is simply not true. This is true of some people, but not everyone. I am not a fan of PPIs and have personally opted not to take them for at least awhile, but I would never advise everyone not to take them.
Yes, stomach acid is important and it is necessary to break down food and to help fight off bacterial overgrowth, but not everyone has low stomach acid. Also bear in mind that bile reflux can also have the same symptoms as acid reflux and that calls for an entirely different regimen.
GERD, IBS, Esophagitis, Gastritis, LPR, etc. are all very individualized problems, which is why the advice you're giving is dangerous. I know GERD very well since I've had to deal with it for many, many years, have worked with 3 GI doctors, nutritionists, and have spent years reading medical publications and papers and have participated in a lot of food / diet / nutrition experiments.
I'm not sure what your motivation is but posting the a one-size-fits-all approach to GERD sufferers isn't helpful to this community.
