I've had GERD for many years. Last month, over a two week period, I was experiencing constant stomach pain and nausea. I felt bloated all the time with a "full" feeling and didn't feel like eating. If I did eat something it made my stomach pain worse. The pain was mostly from my belly button and above. No poop problems.
I finally went in to urgent care after I had lost 6 pounds and was feeling very fatigued. I was able to get IV fluids because I was dehydrated and that helped.
They did an abdominal x-ray and that came back normal. They had me drink a licodaine mixture to see if that helped with my pain and it did a little bit. I was told it was probably my GERD and they changed my prescript
ion from omeprazole to pantoprazole and gave me a GI referral. They said I probably have gastritis.
While waiting for my GI appointment I had an abdominal ultrasound done to check my gall bladder and that was also normal.
Since I've never been to GI doctor before, does anyone know what they usually do at the first visit? Also, does anyone have experience with elimination diets to find out what foods they should be avoiding? I know that gluten is one of my big stomach pain triggers.
