Dear Krich: I am 5 weeks out from my NF and I have had that awful lump in the middle of the esophagus also! it used to last an hour. Now it lasts 20-30 minutes, and I am so uncomfortable and sick. I think that the thick mucus is the body's way of trying to help digest, or throw up. The food doesn't want to go into the stomach. I have a Rx called liquid Sucralfate that I would take before a meal. I thought maybe it lubricated things. The best thing I've found is to take Pepcid, but you can only take 1-2 in a 24 hr period, so I take Tums and it works to calm things down. I also have 3 anti emetics that I have to take round the clock. The doctors say it's not heartburn, but it sure feels like it to me, even worse. I actually had endoscopy to stretch it today, as I started throwing up at week 4 and hospitalized with dehydration. At least you are eating more than the clear liquid diet that I am so sick of. 1 out of 10 people have prolonged problems healing. i can only hope that time will help.
