The mess he would use would be biological pig mesh. He said using any mesh to repair the hernia can be tricky as it would be placed close to the diaphragm which is a moving muscle. All that constant moving can cause the mess to "catch" or "wear down" over time. He only uses biological mesh. So I guess I should look into the other as well. My second opinion doctor would only use the biological - so maybe there is something to it. Both said rejection wasn't a problem but I also realize everyone is unique and I could respond differently than the majority. Regardless, something to investigate since I overlooked it before because I knew he would be stitching it.
I really don't think he wants a "redo" as he mentioned it can be tricky with scar tissue that has already formed. He asked if medication was helping at all and when I mentioned that taking them make my bones hurt, he kind of dismissed me saying it take years for osteoporosis to set in. I know my knees are bad (torn acl's on both) and when weather changes I can feel it in my bones. Also, know that taking anti reflux medicine makes my lower extremities feel like I've been run over by a truck. My resistance to medication was the major reason for choosing this surgery, anyway he did recommend further testing to see where we stand with the wrap and the hernia so I know he's listening and wants to find a solution to this problem. Only thing I'm unsure of is my gastro guy, he has lost a lot of my confidence. Surgeon would be sending him specific instructions on how to perform endoscopy so he gets shots of what he looking for and suggestions for the PH testing. Hopefully gastro doctor won't be offended and will follow recommended surgeon procedures.
I'm scheduled for endoscopy on Nov 18th so I will know something soon.
Pat, I know you've had a redo or two. I'd really like follow up input from you after I get my endoscopy results and my plan of action from those results, hope you'll be around in the next week or so.
Once again, thank you to all for viewing and responding to my post. It's very comforting!
