Pantoprazole and Heart Palpitations.

I started Pantoprazole, 40mg, twice daily, on November 15th after having an endoscopy done.
I've been diagnosed with GERD, and bad acid reflux.

I get heart palpitations from the anxiety that I suffer from.
I went 7 weeks without any,
now that I've been on the Pantoprazole, I've noticed that i'm getting them up to 10 times a day, that I can feel.

I'm also slightly dizzy on and off, and short of breath at times.
That may be my asthma due to it being cold here in Western NY.

I thought the palpitations were mainly due to my stomach,
I posted about it yesterday,
but now i'm beginning to think it may also be my medicine.

My Question,
Has Pantoprazole caused any of these side effects for you if you've taken it?
I plan on googling it and checking it out.

Hi Melissuh, I would see your GP to get this checked out rather that using Dr Google. Hope it all goes well.

I'm calling my gastroenterologist this morning and leaving a message for him.
I've seen a cardiologist who thinks it's connected to my GERD, I've had 15 ekgs, a 24 hour Holter monitor, event monitor and echocardiogram done in the last 8 months for the heart palpitations, and a slight murmur and feelings that my "heart stopped" which is apparently just a longer pause in the skipped beats I feel.

I'm starting to believe my Dr's that this is all linked to my stomach.

This is a tricky situation because GERD can cause heart palpatations. However, one of the side effects of proton pump inhibitor drugs can be heart palpatations. Some people get them and others don't.

If you have noticed an increase after taking this medincine it could be related. What does the doctor say?

My GI Dr told me to stop the pantoprazole immediately and put me on omeprazole, I go to see my primary saturday.

The palpitations have gotten even more frequent. Sometimes for no reason, most of the time for hours AFTER I've eaten a meal...

Hi Melissuh,

I had bad experience with Omneprazole and pantoprazole. Those meds made me dizzy and weak. We are different. I wean myself from those meds after 6 weeks. Did not work after a week for me. Even my anxiety pills I stopped taking as it made me worst. Don't feel bad if you are feeling anxious. That's just part of having GERD. Start with strict diet and avoid those triggered food. I'm not a doctor but I got better without PPI meds.

I was feeling palpitation every day while I was on omeprazole (20mg). I have asthma too but It was no related. I was feeling a lot of side effects: anxiety, palpitations, burning, blurry vision, etc. I lower my dose and stop taking it. At the beginning I was ok (for 5 days) the palpitations stop, etc. After that I was feeling worse (acid rebound). It last one month.

Now I can said I'm feeling better. I'm still having symptoms every day (burning, etc) but nothing compare to what I fell on omeprazole. I went to Naturopathic Dr. she did a test (no other Dr did a test before!!!) and found out I have bacteria on small intestine. She said that its the cause of my acid reflux. I'm going to start my treatment soon and I hope I can have my life back.

My Dr. its located in NY and I think she got a location on Connecticut.
