Hi mymulligan,
it seems like you were doing ok for a while. Before thinking of surgery, try to check your diet again. You did it before without PPI. You might have taken some food or medications that have triggered all the symptoms.
Have a food journal and look back what might have caused the above symptoms. I'm not a doctor but it's always good to have a check up again.
I had my GERD experience last June and it was horrible that I was not able to eat at all. I have to drink food supplements (Boost works for me). Like you PPI did not do me any good and more harm.
Looking back, I had radiation few years back, developed anxiety and had always post nasal drip. Then I was taking antibiotics for 3 months in a row. First for cough, then for my ear ache then for my tooth surgery. I was also taking Advil and taking those medications without food. My doctocr said ok with or without food. Wrong... So Last June I was rushed to emergency for breathing problem etc. All test were done, X-Ray, Hpyroli, Cat scan etc. Praise God all were normal except my doctor said it's GERD. Yup It's GERD... but i was feeling horrible. I was bad that I can't even work nor do anything. Anxiety was so bad but I did stop taking those meds as this had worsen my GERD.
I wean from PPI after 6 weeks, to Zantac then Tums. and did the strict diet for 3 months. No meat at all except for organic eggs. I mix my food(fish) with apple cider vinegar and this helped. Taking ACV with water was too strong for me. I was taking supplements like Magnesium Citrate, calcium supplements, D3. Also, Manuka honey for few times for my achy throat. I developed low acid due to the PPI i took. So taking those supplements and ACV with my food helped my recovery.
I praise God for healing. Just my personal opinion but prayers helped me most. Anxiety is controlled. I been eating normally now. I still avoiding from fatty foods and too much meat. For me, it's better to take it easy. All th best to you,
God bless.
