If the doctor says you can start eating other food then you can do it, don't be too over cautious because you need to start getting your stomach adjusted to more than just liquid, I'm pretty sure everyone is at least on to thick liquids like smoothies and soups by the second week if not puree. Just remember to take things very slowly and chew really really well. Also small meals help, I have about 1/4cup of food at each meal, any more and its too much for my stomach.
I've just passed the 2 week mark and these are the foods I can handle: Apple sauce, smoothies, oatmeal, dry crackers (chewed thoroughly they turn to mush), soups, potatoes without the skin, well cooked pasta, well cooked noodles. The key is only having small mouthfuls, I use a teaspoon to make sure I'm not eating too much in a mouthful.
You wont die from being on a liquid diet, there are people who only live on a liquid diet and do so for years. Its not good long term but some people don't have a choice.
