Tapering off PPI aftter surgery?

Can anyone tell me how they successfully tapered off their PPI without rebounding acid? Our surgeon was vague about the tapering, but my son gets a lot of rebound acid off the 60mg of Dexilant.He is 6 weeks post op TIF. Any instructions that worked are appreciated.

I would definitely call the surgeon's office and get instructions about how he wants your son to proceed with his Dexilant dosage. I can't answer your question about rebound acid after TIF, I had NF and did not take PPIs at all post-surgery and had no rebound acid. I'm sure someone will come along and post who is more familiar with the TIF procedure.

Thanks SharonZ. Unfortunately, I already spoke to the surgeon's office, and they said to just stop taking it, no need to taper. This is a bad idea, as I already know it needs to taper down.I have a call in to our pediatric GI, hopefully he will be more help than the surgeon.

I agree about the tapering, I was fortunate that I suffered no acid rebound after I stopped taking Protonix post-surgery. I'm sure his pediatric GI will be of more help.
