WITS END.

So my husband had these episodes for the last 6 years...but the last year it's worse...now it happens 3-4times a week.

wakes up choking, coughing, throwing up...even comes from his nose at times...he has acid reflux takes nexium...doesn't help at all anymore.

He was suppose to have some test done back in 2011 but he didn't go.

Not to sure I might be wrong...but my father in law had some sort of cancer, I think throat cancer..

I'm worried, and it's not only him and me losing sleep now, it's my kids...it's become a thing he coughs loud and his choking wakes up us all...once an episode starts at night he has choking up to 6 times in that night...seriously I don't know what else to do....I've read some of the post so I know I'm not alone nor is he...he stubborn as hell so he won't go to doctor....

Any advice for me ??

I'll be dragging him to doctors office soon that's for sure....

He should see a doctor as soon as possible. Don't wait, if reflux is causing these problems his esophagus could be getting damaged, not to mention the toll it must take on his lungs to be coughing so much.

Besides he shouldn't have to suffer if there's help to be had.

He can get it under control for the time being but it takes a lot of dedication!! At least the severeness of it. I have reined in my severe reflux but it has taken 5 months.. I am taking prilosec and carafete but both of these meds make me have some serious stomach issues that mimic reflux so I am working on getting off of them and continuing life style changes.

What worked for me:
NO caffeine or alcohol
NO sugary foods- only that in fruit
NO or LOW carb diet
NO dairy
NO gluten
NO processed foods
My meal plan:

Breakfast: Half of a steak and kefir
Lunch: Turkey breast and wilted spinach with apple cider vinegar
Dinner: Chicken breast with asparagus or cauliflower (No broccoli)
Snacks: Popcorn (on the stove with Himalayan salt and no butter), banana, apple, mango, rice cake with peanut butter, fiber bar, gluten free crackers, homemade GF healthy muffin, get creative. Something good on the tummy and low carb. I try to only have a couple pieces of fruit a week. Usually only when I am desperate for something.

Supplements:
DGL 20 minutes before each meal and before bed
GI-Revive: read reviews on amazon to see if you are interested.
Digestive enzymes with every meal. This is a very cheap and very effective supplement. Please try!! Can buy at any health food store
Probiotics (Start slow.. can upset stomach at first. Can even start off by doing every other day. and Low dosage one to start off with) Can even start off by drinking some kefir each day.
Vitamin D3 (2,000-5,000 IU daily) to help prevent damage to esophagus.

Life style modifications:
Sleep with a wedge pillow or bricks under bed. I just prop myself up on pillows and am almost sitting up. I've heard that isn't the best for your back but it helps me! I occasionally will sleep on my left side as well. That also is good for reflux.
Chiropractor- this shows quick results after just a few weeks of going. They can tell you right away if your reflux is being causes by a your spine being out of alignment. Especially if its near your digestive track. Even if it isnt from your spine, adjusting it can help a lot!
Acupuncture: I go to a community acupuncture that is only $20 for a 1 hour treatment. This can also be very helpful after just a few weeks of treatments.
Moderate exercise: Walking/jogging if possible regularly. Avoid anything straining the stomach.

These are all things that have helped me. I hope he can adopt one/some of these things and they will help him as well! I wish you guys the best of luck. Dealing with these issues is one of the worst things I've had to deal with in my life! Positive energy and prayers being sent your way!

What you are describing sounds very serious. No offense, but isn't it just obvious that he needs to go to the doctor?
