Yes, I was surprised too. Now before I weaned off the PPIs during that week I had drastically altered my diet, eating mostly organic vegetables, fruits, beans, legumes, some raw nuts, fish, and chicken.
Then I started drinking vegetable smoothies, starting out with about 16 oz a day and gradually drinking more each day. Once I switched to the smoothie diet, I did it for 22 straight days and I noticed my reflux kept on diminishing.
My smoothie base was one banana, baby spinach, kale, and half an apple. For added variety I would add blueberries, sometimes watermelon, and sometimes raspberries. I would mix the greens and use dandelion greens, collard greens, purple kale, and a little bit of argula. I would use water or cocnut water or almond milk. To make it creamier I would add half of an avocado.
It was tough the first few days because I was always hungry but the hunger pangs diminished after a few days.
I know some people with GERD cannot tolerate some of the ingredients I mentioned so you'll have to make small batches at first and see which combination your body will tolerate.
