Hello all, new member here, first post.
2 weeks ago I had a distectomy on my c-6-7. That is where they take out a ruptured disk and replace it with a plastic/silicone one. The surgery seems to be a success but I am writing for a different reason.
Approximately 2hours after surgery I had so much pressure and pain in my chest cavity that I thought I was having a heart attack. The hospital ran an EKG and chest X-ray and everything seemed fine. They than said it must have been an anxiety attack. I disagreed with them and tried to explain the pain that I felt. It's pain that I know all of you on this forum can understand.
The pain was still there the next day and by 2 pm the next day, they finally gave me some maylox and agreed to send me home with a prescription of pantoprazole. While I was in the hospital the pain was not that bad if I was lying still. If I got up to move or brush my teeth it would get considerably worse and would sent my heart rate through the roof.
I take this prescription once a day and it,s getting much better. I am scheduled to get an endoscopy on the 21st of June. The distectomy was also the first time I had ever been intubated, not sure it that matters.
I am just wondering if anyone Else has had similar things happen to them after surgery.
I have had heartburn as long as I can remember, probably have gerd, choke on my food often and feel like food gets stuck in my throat often as well. Maybe I have a hiatal hernia, who knows. I think my mother had the same thing but never went to the doctor about it. I'm just trying not to be my mother, lol. Any thoughts?
