Nissen Fundoplication Recovery

I had NF 3 mths. ago and still feel bloated, lower crampy feeling and just discomfort. . Still have to eat smaller portions. N.P. said I shouldn't be experiencing this now from surgery. She is doing a CT scan. Has anyone still had problems 3 mths. after this surgery? Thanks for input. So discouraged.

This is absolutely normal, as aero1 said this is a challenging recovery. I had surgery two years ago and I still eat smaller portions. With NF, part of your stomach is used to repair your esophagus and that in itself will cause you to eat smaller portions initially. Keep in mind that you had major surgery. I only started to feel better at 6 months and back to myself at 1 year. I strongly suggest that you start taking an anti-gas medication, I'm no longer able to belch or vomit.

DiAnn, I had my Nissen Fundo November 2015. Initially, I had significant bloating, sluggish esophageal function, difficulty swallowing food and stomach fullness. What has helped me tremendously in all of these areas is acupuncture. I sincerely recommend it!

Hi, after the first few months I was fine. I was great for a year then a coughing fit and my fundoplication let go, twisting my stomach. I was on dexilant and then carafate made it heal and flip back. I had mine done in Boston and my surgeon is in just as must shock as I am that it failed. I was very careful, but my sutures undid. The Radiologist showed me when I went for a barium swallow. My surgeon didn't believe it until I went for an endoscopy and my stomach is folded. So now I have to be extra cautious. I had a very tight fundoplication, but I was able to belch after, which was fine for me. I just had to be careful with grapes or apples. The peels are what would cause me to cough. I was refluxing so bad, my vocal cords were inflamed and I couldn't talk. Dexilant healed me. I am petite and was having trouble finding a surgeon to operate on me. My surgeon did fundoplication's on children, and said I was a piece of cake. I don't understand why it is finished with only 3 sutures, granted they should never let go ever. Please make sure you contact your doctor with issues. I was extremely lucky I didn't have to have emergency surgery but if I ever get in severe pain like that again, I know Boston ER. I felt my stomach twist back. She consulted with a team of doctors to determine how tight to do my surgery. I admit at first, it really feels funny. I will be having a redo. I do have a swallowing issue from my previous doctor refusing to operate, no matter how bad my esophagus was inflamed. So redo of pH testing and motility.
