I know this post is 2 weeks old but in the chance you will read my reply ill give you my view from someone who was obese at 13 (i was close to 180 as well) and developed LPR at 16.
First i wanna say calm down i know you love your daughter but your judgement seems extremely clouded, first why do you think operating on a 13yo is a good idea? because you're worried and dont like to hear her complain about the symptoms but thats on you not on her, you have to be thinking about HER.
Second of all that surgery is usually a last resort option and you considering it for her is disturbing me for many reasons: 1) if it doesnt work she will loose all hope (and so will you) 2) you say shes having many good and few bad days since you put her on a cleaner diet, have you considered going even cleaner? obviously being 180 at 13 isnt done by eating fruits, been there done that, tons of mc donald, chips, popcorn, bacon etc etc etc. its only been a few months and going cleaner is helping have you thought about the possibility that maybe going even further down the healthy path might be enough to eliminate her LPR completely?
Third of all lets say you do have her undergo the surgery and LPR goes away, what then? she feels fine so she starts to eat a lot more junk again, soon shes 180 again and symptoms come back, oops. LPR (to me at least) is not a disease but rather a cry for help from your body and the surgery is just a way to close its mouth shut akin to putting a crying baby into another room so you can hear it less, you didnt fix the problem you muffled it (but thats just my opinion).
Look im sorry if this sounds rough because you seem like a nice mom and deeply care about her but as someone whos been obese at 13 with LPR not long after that and with a mom who also cared deeply, i would've lost all hope had surgery been done because i know i would've just went back to my bad eating habits and my mom would've let me.
Bonus: Posture. hows her posture? i know i had a terrible posture at 13 with all that extra weight, i wouldnt be surprised if hers is bad as well and bad posture makes LPR even worse.
PS. one thing i've learned now that im older is when you're such a caring mom its best to take someone else with you at the doctor or even just to discuss health plans to have a fresh distanced perspective on the problem. The few times i went to the doctor accompanied with my mom and someone else tagging along were the best times due to that person calming down my mom and reasoning with her instead of having her jump straight to "GIVE HIM TO STRONGEST ANTIBIOTIC ON EARTH" for a mild sinus infection (real story). The point here is trying to do too good can cause your daughter harm and in this day and age doctors wont always do whats right and stop you.

Hello my dear SD93, I wanted to hear back from you, What happened ?
Too easy to lecture others, too tough to face the real facts and day to day life ?
I doubt you have LPR, I doubt you even know anything about
it, and I doubt you are who you are pretending to be. I doubt you have a kid of your own, then you would know how a mother feels.
Dont come to these boards and give lectures, living with this thing is tough, and for a 13 year old its devastating. She cant eat, shes depressed and anxious....for me if has 1% chance of feeling better, I will take it.
This is the greatest punishment God had dished out to me, and he must really really hate me.
Not sure what I did to deserve this.
Anyways, yes I am tring to help my daughter with clean diet and supplements, but she still had symptoms and I cant take them away.
I am reading more about
GERD surgery in kids and if I find anything I will consider it.
It will give her a new chance TO LIVE.
So stop being so negative, if you cannot say anything positive, then let it go.
I would still like to see some proof that you have LPR and like to know you personally if I can, before I believe your sermon.
Thanks, Mita
