Failed Nissen? Or to soon to tell?

pre-Nissen I had reflux standing up, sitting down, and at night 24/7.

I had my Nissen a week ago and have noticed substantial improvement. My reflux symptoms where present the last five years. I picked my surgeon as he had done his partners Nissen surgery. So I wanted the doctor who worked on doctors.

Anyway, over the last week I have found moment where food hits the wrap (whoa), but at least I know it is there. A little air will escape and provide slow relief. Maybe a small belch.

I have also cut my aciphex from 2 per day to 1.

My main concern is at night, I swallow and I can hear the old dreaded gurgle and salvia coming up.

I told the surgeon about his the day after my procedure and he mentioned that's everyday would produce different results for the next three weeks as things healed and he felt it was a very successful surgery.

I'm a bit bummed that the lying down reflux proves the procedure wasn't as full of a success as I hoped and the wrap is to loose.

I do have an appt with my surgeon on Monday, but what are your thoughts. I'm kind of bummed.

Has this failed or isn't provided the best results, or is it to early to tell?

It's way too early to tell, a lot of people experience what they think is reflux, but it's just part of the healing process. Just remember that you just had major surgery a few days ago, and the healing process is very slow. I agree with your surgeon regarding the different results over the next few weeks.

+1, what SharonZ said, is spot on. hang in there, this a tricky surgery to recover from. try not to let your mind go off, take it easy and good luck.

Just curious, how did things ultimately go for you, did the nessien help or it was a failure ?

considering it for my 13 year old daughter...so curious.

Hey Dylan8081! Everyday is an adventure with the Nissen wrap. I had mine done in May 2015. I had to stay on omeprozole twice daily for about a year. At first I was bummed but then realized I needed time to heal. Lots of time. At first my stomach would gurgle and I would feel nauseous if I laid down too soon after I ate. If I ate too much my stomach would protest. I learned to eat a couple bites of applesauce before eating my main meal. I chew like there is no tomorrow. I eat small meals. I still use gas x when needed. But I am able to eat most anything now. Give yourself a lot of time to heal. This surgery is no joke. You will feel better in time.
