Strictures aren't any fun are they? Hurt like crazy when trying to swallow. In the past I've gone in for dilation from my specialist and that worked for a couple of years each time. Procedure may the same, the Dr. will take a look inside your stomach and expand your stricture area...bring you in, sedate you with a 'twilight' anesthesia, place a flexible camera down your throat, look around to see what the issues are, then will place a small 'balloon' like instrument inside you esophagus and gently expand your esophagus out a couple of times. Then you'll wake up with a little bit of a sore throat for a day or two (you won't be driving that day), and life should get better for awhile. At least it did for me.
For me, he also changed prescriptions (PPI's) to stay the course. That's my little story.
I'm just now recovering from the Nissen Fundoplication surgery 17 years after my GERD treatments started. I'll let you know how that goes. I'm two weeks post op today, and posted a summary last night.
