Biopsy Results....Still have Stomach Pain

Received biopsy results from endoscopy.
Glandular mucosa with nonspecific inflammation and pancreatic
metaplasia, no goblet cell metaplasia seen.

Also, noted was irregular Z line., and 5cm hiatus hernia ( Which I knew from 20 years ago.). Doctor did not suggest any other treatment or drug change. Stomach is Constantly on fire....I presently take
1 Nexium in the morning, and 1 Nexium at late afternoon. 8 150MG tablets of Ranididene (sp?), with approximately 6-8 Super Gaviscon tablets during the day. If I miss any of the above drugs, I have severe burning in stomach area. Is there ANYTHING I can do for this? Have tried the obvious diet changes, elevating bed,etc. Not much help....Doctor does not seem to be over concerned.....Looking for some positive advice or direction...Thank you

Welsome to the forum, crixus.

What kind of doctor are you seeing? The dosage of ranitidine is 4 time higher than normal.

How are you taking the Nexium? It HAS TO be taken half an hour to 45 minutes before eating in the morning and then you must eat. Are you on the regular 40 mg pills or the OTC 20 mg? If you take it before supper you have to take it the same as before breakfast. You have to take it early enough for it to be metabolized to the form that works, and then you have to turn on the acid pumps by eating so the drug can torn them off.

You take the ranitidine after eating. Are you following those directions also? If you are just taking stuff when you are in pain they don't work.

If you aren't seeing a gastroenterologist, and maybe if you are, I would consider getting a second opinion.

You might try keeping a food diary/journal. See the search box at the top of the page for how to do it and lots more information. I got rid of most of my reflux problems by finding out I had some specific trigger foods,not the ones that are commonly mentioned by gastroenterologists either!

Thank you for the comments. I am seeing my family doctor, who refered me to a Digestive Medicine Doctor at the hospital. This doctor did the endoscopy. I am taking the Nexium as you mentioned before food. I am on the OTC 20 MG, which I take twice a day ( these are the ones advertised as 24 hour/delayed release). Thanks for the food diary/journal ...will try that. My quality of life is really gone down hill on this issue. All the doctors seem to give me the same."....well, could be this could be that....", not a lot of help at all. When my doctor saw the endoscopy results his approach was the same.." well, not a lot going on there, this is something you might have to live with?" Thanks again...

Hi - I am sorry for your situation and I empathize - my stomach pain is also unbearable and I've been on the same regime as you drug wise. But now I an weaning off because the drugs just aren't helping enough to justify them and I'm kind of worried they may be contributing to the stomach pain. We shall see - I'm in the midst of an experiment to see what works. I've been to two docs so far and have appointments with a new GI and a surgeon (just for a consult). Have you tried the gaviscon advance? It's not sold otc in the US but you can get it from Amazon - they shipment from the UK. It helps more than the extra strength gaviscon. Also you could try carafate but it didn't help me - has helped others though. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments. Like you my quality of life is really no pleasant. Rarely went to doctors, but now..just cannot get any type of relief. I'll take a look at the Gaviscon Advance....as I mentioned I use the Extra Strength tablets, but the provide just minimal health benefits. Agreement on the use of so many OTC pill cocktails for just minimal help. Not heard of the the Carafate..but like the Advance...will be purchasing...willing to try anything for relief. Please keep me posted on your journey... Doctors now have the same attitude.." If you walked in, you can't be that sick."

Finally got a bottle of the GAVISCON from the UK...it's called GAVISCON ADVANCE...seems to do a much better job of control that US Gaviscon. I would recommend this product to anyone having these extreme burning problems. Still not where I should be....have the choking at night on occasion and I have to constantly take Tagamet, 2 nexiums and 2 Gaviscon ADVANCE each day to make it through. I cannot drink a glass of water without extreme burning. I know the above medications are extreme but just can't make it through the day without the above. Thanks for the tip of the UK GAVISCON>
