Hi All, I had the Nissen/Hiatus Hernia repair on the 15th March - 9 days ago - and I am worried that I am healing too quickly/too easily and am possibly doing something wrong.
After I woke up from the procedure I started drinking water and managed to consume 6 litres in 24 hours. I also had the clear soup a jello for lunch before I went home on day 2.
Once home, I found that swallowing was relatively painless and easy .....some post op discomfort from the tubes etc. I was taking whole tablets and only liquids.
On day 5 I started with pureed or sloppy foods and those all went down with no hassles. All along I was feeling good, sleeping well and amazed at the relief of not having any reflux. I even drove the car a short distance on day 6.
Last night I had a hot chocolate drink at around 9.30 and at 11 I had to run. It was pure liquid and emptied my insides totally - at least it felt like it. I guess I might have over-filled the stomach and it just literally dumped the liquids.
I am having stitches out today - day 9.
I cannot believe how easy the recovery has been so far and how good I feel. Maybe that reflects on how bad the reflux was before.
I am 63 and have been suffering with severe reflux for 5 years.
I was on Domperidone until that was banned. Then went on to Omeprazole and gaviscon etc.
When that did not work I was put on max doses of Ezomeprazole and Ranitidine with the prescription only double thick Gaviscon.
This did not do the trick and I was scheduled for the Nissen etc etc after scopes from top and bottom to ensure all was clear.
My throat was terribly inflamed and the acid had burned my vocal chords too. I used to sing in a rock band and this really got to me as I also stopped playing guitar.
So if anyone has any advice on healing too quickly please let me know before I do something I should not do.
For anyone considering the procedure .......do it!!
