So, I'm 3.5 weeks post fundoplication. I was instructed to take my Protonix for two weeks daily, then every other day for two more weeks. I'm nearing the end of that second two weeks and am experiencing lots of strange gas pains moving around my body similar to how it felt post-op (those who have been fundoplicated will know exactly what I mean). The cramping abdominal pain is sometimes pretty intense. Also an incredible feeling of needing to pass gas that never comes to fruition. In addition to this, I'm now confronted with a type of dizziness and a disoriented feeling. Difficult at times to assemble my thoughts and sometimes I have to close my eyes and try to re-center myself. Pangs of anxiety come along from time to time as well. I've been on PPIs for 11 years, including stretches where I had to take it twice a day. I just want to know if this is common. What are other experiences like? Is this normal? Thanks.

I haven't had surgery but am going through what I think is at least partially PPI withdrawal, and it includes dizziness and a "foggy head" sensation. Also extreme fatigue. Of course I can't be sure PPI withdrawal is the cause (I wrote a post about it), but I started having all these issues why I started messing with my daily dose.

Yeah, I actually read your whole thread last night. I also have weird pains moving around my body that aren't gas related but feel like I got hit with a golf club. Also my abdominal area feels really sensitive, but I think that may be from surgery. Not sure though.

I'm 7 weeks post-up and ended my PPI use at 4 weeks after surgery. I was taking it every other day for the full 4 weeks then stopped. I experienced about 4 days of burning in my throat, irritating, but I could handle it ok. Up to week 6 I had some abdominal pain/cramping that felt like my stomach was collapsing in on itself. I took protonix for 12 years daily before surgery. It gradually became less effective and I finally had surgery to fix the haital hernia causing my LPR/GERD. I didn't experience that much "foggy head" sensation but because of intense shoulder pain I was taking heavy pain medication for three weeks after surgery.

I'm still not totally adjusted but I have a lot more energy in week 7 and feel much better. The recovery process is slow. Each day it's gotten better. I can breath easier and no more dependence on the protonix.

My abdominal area gets aggravated from sitting and moving around all day still. It takes time to find the new normal with this surgery. I had days of anxiety early because so much feels uncertain about the success I'm personally going to have.
