Acid reflux with gastritis related?

I am reading about a lot of those who have esophagitis along with gastritis such as myself. Do these always accompany one another, are they related? It seems I had absolutely no acid reflux until i developed gastritis. Now it's too the point where the reflux is almost worse than the gastritis symptoms, when I started out with stomach symptoms to begin with. So confused confused

ya i was diagnosed with gastritis and signs of acid reflux but no erosion. Ive had this since dec. Wondering if when my gastritis goes away if gerd will too. No ant acids or ppis worked so I am on a bland diet and use tumeric.

Anyone know how long gastritis lasts and if this could be why I got acid reflux all of a sudden and food sensitivities ?

Kay88- I wish I could get off PPIs as I worry about low stomach acid. I tried myself, but no matter how bland I ate, the pain was unbearable.
I have had this since January. I have wondered how little no it lasts myself, but I think it is different for everyone. I read online someone had it for 15 months! I can't imagine going though this for another full year on top of the 3 months I have already been going trough it.
I personally fee they are related.

Yeah, I too had the thoughts of them bring related and hoped if I can get rid of the gastritis then the esophagus

While as I would love to know how I respond to being off it but as you say I may end up damaging myself so I want to stay on it.

My doctor says in a month if I feel better, I can go off of the ppi. I have to wean off of it though. I have head it is pretty tough for some people to get off of them. That is my biggest fear at this point. I don't want to be stuck on a drug, that if staying on it for years can damage my body, because of hellish withdrawal. I just want the gastritis and reflux gone and be done with it. It has been a nightmare already, enough is enough.

I don't understand the link between acid reflux and gastritis. Why does acid reflux cause gastritis?

I do not know if gastritis causes acid reflux, I just know that I have both, and I am reading that some people that are reporting to have gastritis, have esophagitis as well.

Here is a link that lists heartburn as a symptom of gastritis, although my nurse Practitioner says they are not related.

Its not the only site that has listed it as a symptom of gastritis, so there has to be something to it. I just know that my reflux did not start until a month into the gastritis, after being on PPI's. I hope because of this the reflux is not permanent.

Hold on.. I am wrong on my above post. I sat and thought about it for a minute. I did have reflux when the gastritis started before the PPIs, because I remember when I first went to the doc about my stomach when it all started, I remember telling her I had heartburn. I didn't before the gastritis.

Acid reflux is the acid irritation of the esophagus, gastritis is the acid irritation of the stomach. You can experience both together, or one independent of the other.

Although gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining, we are thinking that it is somehow causing our acid reflux. It makes sense in my case as the reflux started when the gastritis started, just not sure how.

@Fearbug have you tried drinking olive oil for your gastritis? I hear it's a good anti-inflammatory food.

cocktaildress I have not tried that, but I read to stay away from oil due to the high fat content, especially vegetable oil, so a little nervous to try it.

Wow really.. drinking olive oil. That sounds crazy I don't think I'd want to try it either.

I've read so much on what to have and not have. Reflux definitely is a topic, along with a lot of other gastric issues, that doctors seem to struggle with.
