On Monday, I had an upper GI series w/ barium contrast done to check on the status of my GERD and make sure no serious damage was being done after having some complaints. The rest went smoothly, and I drank 1 1/2 cans of that stuff. Later that day I started experiencing strong stomach cramping, bloating, etc. I drank roughly 1 to 1.5 gallons of water and ate nothing but fibrous foods (as per the doctor). The pain did subside, but since then, and even now this morning, I keep getting bouts of bloating and stomach discomfort that reminds me of when I was young, and I drank waaaay too much soda at one time. There is still some brief lingering pain moments, but nothing bad.
Now, with that said i have been having bowel movements as normal, albeit somewhat softer than normal. The white stool from the barium started on Tuesday and seems like it subsided completely yesterday, but the bloating feeling still persists. I've tried looking up other peoples stories with this stuff but generally there's not much out there.
I've reached out to my primary who told me that it's fine and i shouldn't have any issues, and then I reached out to the ordering doctor (An ENT btw), who told me they didn't do stomach problems and just go to the ER (<_<). I'm slightly concerned about
bowel obstruction, and some of this barium having not passed completely, but I don't want to go crazy and rush into the ER.
