Hey Diane,
I'd recommend trying out a different PPI as well, or perhaps an over the counter like Zantac and see if you get relief. I was in a similar position, my understanding is that the tightening is acid vapours refluxing into your airways and it's causing that tightening feeling. It's a symptom of LPR (silent reflux) It certainly caused me a lot of anxiety as it could last three or four hours. My doctor unfortunately refused to prescribe me a different PPI so I went off my medication and the tightening feeling did go away (after a month). I had the burping as well, and with that you may want to look into SIBO or H Pylori infections. I'd recommend you google the Fast Tract Diet by Norm Robillard as he explains how SIBO can cause burping and reflux. Jamie Kaufman and Dropping Acid (it's a book) has a great explanation for LPR and the choking feeling/coughing feeling you are experiencing. Both authors focus on diet to improve your symptoms. But like Sharon says, everyone is different and you sometimes have to do your own detective work if your treatment is not working.
