HELP! Gaviscon Regular Tablets anyone have a source???

Like many people I suffer from GERD and the only medication that helps me at all (or to which I am not allergic) is Gaviscon Regular Tablets. I have taken them for about forty years. When I cannot get them I usually suffer from extremely bad GERD. But the regular tablets work 100% for me as opposed to the liquid or the "extra strength" tablets all of which do not work for me at all. Here is my problem: They have vanished and my fall back supply is running out and I am really in a panic.

I called GSK labs and was told there has been a voluntary recall but that it was back in production and could be ordered. That was about three weeks ago. Every supplier I have ever used whether Internet or brick and mortar is sold out. A few have told me that regardless of what GSK customer support told me it has been discontinued.

But I called GSK again and they insist people can order it but it isn't up to them when or if they actually sell it.

Can anyone tell me if they know any store anywhere in the country that sells these tablets and would perhaps accept a mail-order for them? I can't even think what my life will be like if I cannot source these again. Can anyone please help?

Hi Patty, Unfortunately there is absolutely no generic or alternative to the Gaviscon regular tablets formula. It's main ingredients are aluminum hydroxide gel and magnesium trisilicate. I have googled and searched and tried to find any formula similar with very disappointing results. The extra-strength tablets are two totally different ingredients and everything from other manufacturers is likewise not nearly the same. Indeed, I have found nothing else containing the aluminum trisilicate which seems to be the "most" active ingredient.

Today I got more bad news. One of the Amazon suppliers I had purchased two dozen from during a window of opportunity a couple weeks ago just refunded my money as they are unable to deliver. I have another three dozen on order from a second supplier which is supposed to deliver in the next couple days but according to tracking the carrier has not yet received the packages although the label was created more than a week ago. If that falls through as well, as I suspect will happen in the next day or two, I will be down to well less than a month's supply.

My life is beginning to revolve around this problem. I really know it sounds like some sort of weird whining but at my age (70) I don't know if I will be able to bear up under what will be happening if I cannot get this after so many years (decades!) of use. I think my only alternative may be some sort of surgical procedure which (again at this age) I would hardly look forward to having.

If anyone stumbles across a source for this or some way to come up with an alternative please let me know.

You may have already looked, but I see on the Wal-Mart website they have :2 Pack Gaviscon Regular Strength Chewable Antacid Tablets 100 Ea. It says they are sold by Mr. Medical but you can place the order right on Wal-marts web site. Im not sure if those are the correct ones or not. Hope this helps!
