heartburn when stomach is empty?

My heartburn always comes when my stomach is empty and I am hungry Does anyone else have this problem? Isn't this backwards? Nicole

If i go to long with out eating i get bad heartburn. I try to eat small meals every two or three hours... or chew gum or suck on hard candy as long as its not peppermint. It helps.

Hi Nikkie,
I sometimes get heartburn on a empty stomach and sometimes when I chew certain kinds of gum. And, yes, this appears backwards, but some individuals get heartburn w/drinking water. Crazy!

My sister in law says her stomach hurts when her stomach is empty but she has to take a cracker or something to make it feel better- don't want to mislead you but she says it's b/c she has ulcers- have you had ck for that? her dr prescribed Carafate....(sp)?
