Transitioning from PPI to H2

I currently take a PPI (Pantoprazole) and an H2-blocker (Pepcid).
I take the Pantoprazole in the AM and the Pepcid at bedtime.

I'm currently being weaned off of the Pantoprazole.

What I'd like to know for those who took both a PPI and an H2, when you were completely off the PPI, did your doc leave the H2 dose the same (time and frequency)? Did they change it?

Also, was there anything you did to help ease the transition off the PPI?

I started out on Tums, then went to an H2 blocker, and then went to PPIs. Once I was on PPIs, the H2 blockers no longer seemed to work for me (I actually had a few very experiences trying to transition back to H2 blockers). But if it is at all possible, I would try to transition back. There is new research coming out showing that PPIs have very serious long-term side-effects, even an increase in early death.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had another question related to switching from a PPI to an H2.

When they got you off the PPI completely, did they change the dosage (mg/frequency) of the H2?
