Hello,
I tried to quit PPI's this year (been on Nexium for a couple years). I was successful for a few months, but then had to get back on them. I'm trying to wean off of it even now, although I am trying a much slower taper.
I'm noticing some random soreness/pain in some of my joints - the most apparent is my knees, but I also have random mild pains in random areas, such as my finger/toe joints, elbows, etc. The pain seems to come and go, and is not there all the time. I also had some mild upper-right pain in my ribs (clearly not GERD) as I got up this morning. I was sleeping on my right side, by the way.
With that said, this whole condition (GERD) has caused me to lose some weight/muscle. I'm a 6'3 male, and am about 168 lbs - not anorexic, by any means, but skinnier than what I was. I have less muscle. I guess I'm also wondering if it could be because I have less actual flesh/muscle to protect some of these joints, ribs, etc. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if all of this could be caused by my PPI use. I generally have never used doses greater than 20mg/day, and I'm also still pretty young, only in my 30's.
Appreciate the input!
