You must have someone for a couple of days, but I did it alone with just someone checking in after the first week or so, and mine was a really tough surgery. They won't do it if you tell them you have no one at home at all ever, not even for a few days.
Plan ahead and have liquids and soft foods stocked up so you can just heat something in the microwave. You won't be allowed to drive until at least after the first checkup.
Forget flying for a while, but it really depends on how extensive the surgery is and what shape you're in to start with. Don't even dream of heavy lifting for at least a few months. You don't want to take a chance on wrecking all this repair. Again, it depends on the extent of the surgery. Mine was worse than most because my stomach was partly stuck in my chest.
It takes a year to get back, and that's to the "New Normal." But years later I'm so happy not to be like I was! It's not fun, but if you need it, you need it!
Find or hire someone to stay in the house for at least a few days.
PS: Burping won't happen for most of us for a while, but mine came back after about
a year and is just fine. I can't however, vomit! I have Zofran on hand (Rx) for emergencies like getting the flu. Many others keep it on hand also.
