Hi Jennifer:
Thanks for the welcome, it's nice to be here. For years, I was addicted to Tums and an occasional bicarbonate of soda (works great, but tastes terrible), but in the last couple of years the antacids worked less and less, the heartburn growing more unbearable. My doctor said it was a sign of growing older, and he recommended medication (I now have a new doctor).
I've tried diet modification, drinking vinegar, drinking lemon juice, avoiding peppermint and spicy foods, tomato sauce, beer and wine and dairy products, to which I was always told I had a lactose intolerance. I've tried Prilosec and Zantac and hated them. Both caused stomach upset, nausea, and unnatural #2s.
I read some stuff about a low carb diet for heartburn, followed it, and have been heartburn-free since. The reversal is so dramatic that I'd like to tell others about it.
