i am really disappointed. Got the Gaviscon Advance from UK yesterday and it didin't give me any relief! If anything I was coughing more. I was holding on for that as a way to "raft" after a meal so I could move around a bit more (as opposed to sitting like a statue for an hour) Plus it's so disgusting and thick (that Anisette flavor). Was just wondering if anyone else used it successfully and if there's something I'm missing?

We got the Gaviscon Advance Strawberry flavored chewable tablets and have found them helpful. Takes several after each meal and in the middle of the night. It is expensive because of the shipping and they run out quite frequently. ( Amazon--don't know if I can say this) . Maybe you aren't taking enough of that liquid. Don't like the anisett flavor and the mint doesn't make sense as we are told no peppermint.

hey thegspeak...i have the aniseed flavor from the UK as well It as 23 dollars to get it from the UK. I did nothing for me and burnt my throat, plus the flavor is disgusting. I was hoping it would work for you:(

I use it, it gives me some instant relief in te esophagus but that soon wears off. To be honest i dont see much benefit of the advance over the normal, which is only about a fiver a bottle for me

Thanks Stacey. Andy EXACTLY i think i feel better , definitely feel relief but then it's gone and I"m coughing again. I wonder if you shouldn't eat or drink anything between meals because it breaks "the raft" I'm a big water drinker. Ugh I"m so disappointed I was really counting on this after reading so many success stories.

Yes, you are correct, after taking Gaviscon, you should not eat or drink as it will break the raft. Most people will take it at bedtime.

Thank you Erica! lt's not very practical for me since I always have a dry mouth from the meds I'm taking but good to know.

Question, if i'm a day AND night refluxer (lucky me) what is the logic of elevating my head 30 degrees or whatever it is. Don't I reflux in every position?

Gaviscon Advance sold in the UK is not an antacid or at least not a very strong one. It is a reflux suppression medication designed to keep stomach acid from coming in contact with you esophagus, throat, larynx, etc. The raft shield you from the acid and allow you to heal if you have reflux. Gaviscon Extra strength sold in the US is an antacid liquid designed mainly to neutralize acid and at the same time put a thin coating in you throat and esophagus. These are totally different products and they work differently.
